This Technical Note details recovery procedures for the Portege 2000 using Port Noteworthy and Targus CD ROM and DVD Drives.
First, you must identify which model of drive you have. All Noteworthy and Targus drives have a label on the bottom, showing the part number. Drive is bootable with Toshiba recovery CD. Insert PC Card into slot & Boot with Recovery CD in drive.
Recovery Procedure 2
In addition to the Toshiba Recovery CD, this procedure will require the following:
- USB Diskette drive
- DOS driver downloaded from and a boot disk created using the Recovery CD.
Create the boot disk:
- Insert the Toshiba Recovery CD
- Select the Operating System & click OK
- Select Toshiba Configuration Builder
- To install the factory default setting, select all of the listed components.
- Insert the diskette into the drive when instructed and follow prompts to create the boot disk.
Add support for the DVD Drive to the boot disk
- Download the file listed below from Targus or Port

- Copy this to the boot disk in the a:\BIN directory.
- When prompted, select Yes to replace the existing file.
Restore Files
- Reboot the computer with the modified boot disk.
- When the files have completed installing, a message will appear instructing you to remove the media and press a key.
- Instead of pressing a key Power Off the computer.
