- Issue
Devices, other than hard drives, attached to the SCSI bus via the LSI Logic 53C1010 controller do not display the negotiated synchronization rate during BIOS initialization. Once the Windows 2000 Server operating system has loaded, the device may not be viewable in Device Manager nor accessible via Explorer.
- Resolution
Change the Global Properties - Negotiation setting to "All". The "All" setting forces the controller to negotiate the best possible speed for all devices on the bus, including those that are not capable of Ultra160 transfer rates. After this change, the devices should now be visible in Device Manager and be accessible via Explorer.
Follow these instructions to change the SCSI BIOS Global Properties:
- At the LSI Logic SCSI BIOS screen during startup, press Cntrl-C to enter the SCSI BIOS configuration utility.
- At the Main Menu, press [F2] (you may have to hit it twice) to enter the menu directly above the adapter selection portion of the screen.
- Use the arrow keys to highlight [Global Properties] and press [Enter]
- On the next screen, use the arrow keys to highlight [Negotiation]
- Press the + or - key until the setting reads [All]
- Hit the [ESC] key to exit.
- You will be prompted to save changes. Highlight Save changes then exit this menu and hit [Enter].
- You are returned to the adapter selection portion of the Main Menu.
- Hit the [ESC] key to exit the configuration utility.
- The Global Properties will be saved and a message will be
displayed asking you to hit any key to reboot.
Having completed these steps, the controller will now negotiate and display the synchronization rate of each device on the SCSI device summary screen.
COMMENT:
The default setting for Negotiation is "Supported". With this setting the controller will negotiate only with devices capable of communicating at Ultra160 speeds. Devices not capable of Ultra160 transfers will not display a sync. rate with the "Supported" value under Negotiation.
