To ensure that the hard drive protection feature operates effectively under the Windows Vista operating system please make sure that your computer has version 2.0.0.7 (or higher) of the HDD Protection Driver installed.

Follow these steps, to verify the version, and update the HDD Protection Driver if necessary:

1. Determine the version of Toshiba HDD Protection Driver installed in your computer.

2. Uninstall the existing version of the Toshiba HDD Protection Driver.

3. Install version Toshiba HDD Protection Driver 2.0.0.7 (or higher).

1. Determine the version of the Toshiba HDD Protection Driver installed on your computer

Determine whether or not the Toshiba HDD Protection Driver must be updated, as follows:

1. Click the Windows Start button, then click Control Panel.

2. Click the Uninstall a program link under the Programs heading.

3. Right-click on the the white space to the right of Publisher (indicated by the small red circle), then select More.

4. Scroll to the bottom of the list. Click the check box next to Version, then click OK.

5. If the version number is  2.0.0.5 or less (as shown in the screen shot below), then the driver must be updated -- proceed to the next section "2. Uninstall the existing ..."

2. Uninstall the existing version of the Toshiba HDD Protection Driver

If continuing directly from Step 1 (above), proceed to step 3.

1. Click the Windows Start button, then click Control Panel.

2. Click the Uninstall a program link under the Programs heading.

3. Double-click TOSHIBA HDD Protection then click Yes to confirm the uninstallation. If a "User Account Control" window appears during the driver removal process, click Allow.

4. Click Yes to restart the computer.

3. Install the Toshiba HDD Protection Driver

1. Connect the AC adapter to the computer, to insure that it doesn't shut off during the installation.

2. Close all open applications and remove or disconnect unnecessary peripherals.

3. Click the following link to view the download page for util_hdd_protection_25825A.exe. Click the link on the download page, then save the file to the Windows Desktop.

4. On the Windows Desktop, double-click the downloaded file util_hdd_protection_25825A.exe to start the installation. Be sure not to interrupt the installation, once it’s underway.

5. Click Continue if a User Account Control window appears.

6. Click Setup, then click Next.

7. Click Install to begin the installation. The process may take several minutes. 

8. Click Finish, then click Yes to restart the computer.
