"This device name is already in use" Error When Creating A Partnership On The E570

Issue
p>When attempting to create a partnership with Microsoft ActiveSync an error pops up:
"This device name is already in use. You must enter a different name for your mobile device."
This error occurs when a previous profile exists on your PC with the same profile name.

Resolution

To resolve this issue perform the following steps:

  1. Remove the PDA from the cradle.
  2. Open up Microsoft ActiveSync.
  3. From the pull down menu select File, Mobile Device, and then the name of the profile you are attempting to remove. Pocket_PC is the default profile name.
  4. Next select File, Delete Partnership. You will receive a warning that you are about to delete the selected profile.
  5. Select Yes to remove the profile.
  6. You can now return your PDA to the cradle and create your profile.

    COMMENTS:
    You can also manually remove the profile by deleting the profile folder. The profile can be found at C:\Documents and Settings\<Logged in user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles.

    Application Data is a hidden folder so be sure to select to Show hidden files and folders.
