Issue

Toshiba notebook computers that ship with a Bluetooth module, and not also with a Wi-Fi module, may show the following symptoms:

  • The Bluetooth module does not appear in Control Panel / Device Manager.
  • The wireless indicator light does not turn on when the wireless On/Off switch is in the On position.
  • Nothing happens when the Fn+F8 wireless mode hot key combination is pressed.
  • SPANworks displays this message: "Selected network card or port is not accessible, please select a different card."
Resolution

Follow these steps to enable the Bluetooth module:

1. Move the wireless on/off switch to the On position (the wireless indicator light may not turn on).

2. Launch the Bluetooth Manager by clicking Start, then Programs, then Bluetooth Toshiba Stack, then Bluetooth Manager. The Bluetooth module should now be on, and the wireless indicator light should be on.

3.  If the Bluetooth module is still not working, click the blue antenna icon in the system tray (at the right of the Taskbar) and select Auto Power On.

The Bluetooth module should now be enabled and working. For information about using Bluetooth, click Start, Programs, Bluetooth Toshiba Stack, Quickstart Guide.

Additional information:

On Toshiba models that ship with a Bluetooth module, and not also with a Wi-Fi module, the Bluetooth Manager must be started before the Toshiba Bluetooth LAN Emulation device will function. Launching the Bluetooth Manager will turn on the Bluetooth module, turn on the wireless indicator light, and cause a blue antenna icon to appear in the systray.
