A new version of the Intel® PRO/1000 LAN driver corrects a security vulnerability found in earlier versions of the driver. This driver is for the Toshiba portable computer models listed above.

The security vulnerability is present in driver versions 8.7.1.0 and earlier. Toshiba recommends updating this LAN driver to version 8.7.9.0 (or newer), by following the detailed instructions below. The driver is appropriate for Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows 2000.

The reported vulnerability may allow unprivileged (unauthorized) code to perform a local privilege escalation, allowing the code to run with kernel-level privileges.

Follow these steps, in this order, to update the Intel LAN driver.

Download the new driver

1. Click this link to download the driver file Intel1000_os2006303a.exe. Follow your browser's instructions to save the file to the Windows Desktop.
   

Install the new driver

1. On the Windows Desktop, double-click the downloaded file Intel1000_os2006303a.exe to extract the files to a folder.
   
   
2. Click OK.
   
   
3. Make sure that the "unzip to folder:" is c:\Intel1000temp, then click Unzip.
   
   
4. Click OK, then click Close.
   
   
5. Click the Windows Start button, then click Control Panel.
   
   
6. If Control Panel appears in the Category View mode, as shown below, click Performance and Maintenance, then click System.
   
   
   
   
   
   
   If Control Panel is displayed in the Classic View mode, simply click the System icon.
   
   
   
7. Click the Hardware tab, then click the Device Manager button.
   
   
   
   
   
8. Double-click the Network adapters icon, then right-click Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection, then click Properties.
   
   
   
   
   
9. Click the Driver tab, then click the Update driver button.
   
   
   
   
   
10. Select Install from a list or specific location, then click Next.
    
    
    
    
    
11. Check the checkboxes for Search for the best driver in these location and Include this location in the search.
    
    
    
12. Click the Browse button and choose the folder named c:\Intel1000temp, then click Next .
    
    
    
    
    
    
13. After the driver update process is done, click Finish.
    
    
14. Restart your computer: click Start, then Shut Down (or Turn off computer), then Restart.
    
    

Driver Version Verification

To verify that the driver was updated to the correct version successfully, repeat steps 5 thru 9 above. The driver version will be displayed, as shown below.
