Manual Battery Pack Identification for the Sony Battery Pack Voluntary Replacement ProgramThe following instructions explain how to visually determine whether or not you have a subject battery pack that is eligible for replacement under the Sony Battery Pack Voluntary Replacement Program, and to then obtain the Battery Number and Battery Serial Number. This manual method requires that you remove the battery pack from the computer, and then visually match numbers on the battery pack's identification label with a sample picture of a battery pack identification label. Using the downloadable BatteryCheck utility software is the easiest and recommended method to perform battery pack identification. See the Sony Battery Pack Voluntary Replacement Program document for more details.
Please note that this document is for identifying portable computer battery packs sold by Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. in the U.S. and in Latin America.Note: If you are reading this on a computer containing a battery pack that needs to be visually inspected, print these instructions before starting, so that you will have them available after you turn off the computer.
To visually determine whether or not you have a subject battery pack, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer: Click the Windows Start button, then click Shut Down, and then select "Shut down" from the list of options that appears.
2. Unplug all cords and cables connected to the computer, including the AC adapter.
3. Turn the computer upside down, for easy access to the battery pack.
4. Remove the battery pack from the computer. The battery pack is held in place by two plastic latches. Sliding the latches toward the outside edges of the computer will allow the battery pack to be easily pulled out from the rear of the computer. For detailed and illustrated battery pack removal instructions, see the User's Guide for the computer, available on the Toshiba Service and Support website, at http://pcsupport.toshiba.com.
5. Compare the Battery Number on the label of your battery pack (as pictured below) to the numbers in the Table of Battery Numbers, below.

If the Battery Number does not match any one of the seven numbers in the Table of Battery Numbers, then it is not a subject battery pack (and is not eligible for replacement). Please ignore the remainder of this document and any other material regarding the Sony Battery Pack Voluntary Replacement Program.
6. If the Battery Number on the label does match one of the seven entries in the Table of Battery Numbers, then compare the Battery Serial Number -- the four characters circled in the picture -- to the entries in the Table of Subject Battery Serial Numbers, below.
