Issue
How to attach and setup a (Microsoft or Logitech seem to work the best) PS2 mouse.
Procedure
  1. Be sure the Notebook is powered off.
    Warning: Attaching a PS2 mouse to a live/hot PS2 port
could cause damage to the Notebook
  2. Attach the PS2 mouse/pointing device to the PS2 port usually on the back of the Notebook.
Note: Many docking devices will include separate ports for PS/2 keyboards and mice.
  3. Once the PS2 device is attached, power up the Notebook. With most current operating systems the pointing device will PnP (Plug an Play).
If not the Notebook might prompt you for a driver disk. Most pointing devices come with "DRIVERS" on either a diskette or CD-ROM. Browse to the drivers location and install.
  4. Install any additional software that came with the pointing device. This usually includes special features for the mouse. Such as cursors, arrow pointer size, mouse trails, and a variety of other items.
  5. If you wish to use both the "Accupoint" and secondary PS/2 Pointing device at the same time, you must go into the setup\CMOS. There you can set the pointing device for: "Auto-Selected or Simultaneous".

COMMENTS:
Not all pointing devices are created equal. Usually Microsoft and Logitech are the most reliable. Generic and off brand pointing devices could cause issues depending on their compatibility with the Windows version currently being used.

Using a "Serial to PS2" converter could cause issues. Use at you own risk.

  • It is possible to short a mouse port if the mouse and adapter are not compatible. A good rule of thumb is if the adapter did not come with the mouse, you probably shouldn't even try it.
