- Issue
If the computer is placed into the Standby or Hibernation state by closing the display lid, and then the computer's display panel automatically turns off, the display panel may not turn back on again when the mouse is moved, or the touchpad is touched, or a key is pressed. The Monitor Power OFF setting in the Toshiba Power Saver utility controls when the display is automatically turned off. Once the display is turned off, either moving the mouse, touching the touchpad, or pressing a key on the keyboard should turn it back on again.
This problem only occurs when Toshiba Power Saver is configured as follows:
- Monitor Power OFF is set to automatically turn off the monitor (the internal dislplay panel), as shown below (1 minute, in this example).
- The action for 'When I close the lid' is set to either Standby or Hibernate.
This problem is not specific to Toshiba portable computers, but occurs on various computers using dual-core processors and processors that support hyper-threading technology.
The following Microsoft Knowledge Base Article includes additional information on this topic:
The monitor does not turn on when you move the mouse or press any key after you configure the "Power Options" settings on a Windows XP SP2-based portable computer . (MSKB article 917332).
- Monitor Power OFF is set to automatically turn off the monitor (the internal dislplay panel), as shown below (1 minute, in this example).
- Resolution
Download and install an updated version of the videoprt.sys file from the Toshiba Service and Support site, which will correct the problem.Install this newer videoprt.sys file only for the Toshiba computers listed in the Applicable Models list above.
