Issue

Tecra A8
(PTA82U-xxxxxx) computers may hang (stop responding) at the “Windows is starting up…” screen during a restart, or soon after the computer is turned on.

This anomaly may occur with either of these two configurations:

1. The computer is docked to a port replicator with an IEEE1394 (Firewire/i.LINK) hard disk drive connected to its IEEE1394 port.

2. The computer is connected to a USB 1.1 hub, with a USB 2.0 hard disk drive connected to one of the ports on the hub.

Resolution

Sonic Solutions has released an update to its Sonic DLA (drive letter access) application, which corrects this problem. Please download and install the dlaupdate52_enu.exe (or newer) update, per the instructions below.

This update is exclusively for the Sonic DLA software bundled with Toshiba computers, with Windows XP. It is not appropriate for use with computers from any other manufacturer

This update is specifically for replacing Sonic DLA version 5.20, build 520B11F (and earlier versions) with version 5.20, build 520B11H. It can not be used for updating from any other version to any other version. Follow the instructions below to determine whether or not the update is correct for the Sonic DLA software on a particular computer.

Procedure

Follow these steps, in this order, to download and install the Sonic DLA update

1. Click the following link to download the file dlaupdate52_enu.exe. Follow your browser's instructions to save the file to the Windows Desktop.

2. On the Windows Desktop, double-click the downloaded file dlaupdate52_enu.exe to start the installation. Click Next at the prompt.

The update installer will determine whether or not an applicable version of Sonic DLA is installed in the computer. One of the following messages will be displayed:

Message 2

Message 3

3. Continue based upon which of the messages above is displayed:

3a. If either Message 2 or Message 3 is displayed, then this update is not applicable to the version of Sonic DLA installed on this computer, or Sonic DLA is not installed at all. Click the OK button, and delete the downloaded file from the Windows Desktop. The problem of the computer "hanging" may not be related to the Sonic DLA software.

3b. If Message 1 is displayed, then click the Yes button to proceed with the update, click Yes.

4. Click Yes at the "Are you sure you want to uninstall this product?" prompt, and then click Next.

5. Click the "I accept the terms...." button, then click Next.

6. Click Next, Install, then Finish.

7. Click Yes at the prompt to restart the computer and complete the installation.

The installation will continue once the computer is restarted. The new version of the Sonic DLA software should eliminate the problem symptoms described above.
