- Issue
The Satellite A100-SP471 and other Satellite A100 (PSAA9U-xxxxxx) models that have the ATI Mobility Radeon graphics chipset may experience Windows "blue screen" error messges when capturing digital video (DV) or when playing two AVI files at the same time. The computer will "hang" / lock up when this happens, necessitating a re-start.- Resolution
Download and install ATI video driver version 8.241 (or newer) to correct these problems, per the instructions below.- Procedure
Perfom the following steps, as described below, in this particular order:1. Determine whether or not the computer has the ATI Mobility Radeon chipset
2. Download the new driver
3. Remove the old driver
4. Install the new driver1. ATI Mobility Radeon graphics chipset?
1. From the Windows Desktop, double-click the Toshiba Assist icon, below
2. Click the PROTECT & FIX tab, then click the PC Diagnostic Tool icon, as shown below.
3. Verify that the Video field shows the ATI Mobility Radeon chipset (as below) and that the driver version listed is lower than the version 8.241.0.0 driver shown in the screen shot below. If "ATI Mobility Radeon" is not displayed, or if the version is already 8.241.0.0 or higher (as shown below), do not complete the following steps. This bulletin does not apply to this computer.2. Download the new driver
1. Click the following link to download the driver file sa100_ta7_ati_w2kxp_8241.exe. Follow your browser's instructions to save the file to the Windows Desktop.
3. Remove the old driver
1. Click Start, Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs.
2. Select "ATI Display Driver" and click the Change/Remove button.
3. Click Yes to confirm the uninstall operation.
4. Click Yes to restart the computer.4. Install the new driver
1. On the Windows Desktop, double-click the downloaded file sa100_ta7_ati_w2kxp_8241.exe to start the installation.
2. Click OK, then click Unzip.
3. Click OK, then click Next.
4. Click Yes at the License Agreement prompt.
5. Click the "Express: Recommended" button.
The installation will take several minutes.
6. Click Finish. The computer will restart, and then the driver installation will be complete.- ea/wa
