- System can take a minimum of 2 - 3 minutes to complete boot process when system is not connected to a Local Area Network (LAN).
- Procedure
Use the Network Switch System Tray (Systray) icon to switch to Dial-Up Adapter when not connected to the Local Area Network (LAN). To switch between the Dial-Up adapter and the built-in network interface card (NIC) perform the following steps:
1. Click the Network Switch icon in the System Tray (systray).
2. Select the desired connection (Dial-up Adapter or RealTek RTL8139 Family Fast Ethernet NIC).
NOTE: When switching from the Dial-up Adapter to the RealTek RTL8139 Family Fast Ethernet NIC, you may have to renew the IP lease by running WINIPCFG under Windows 98, 98 Second Edition, ME or IPCONFIG under Windows 2000, selecting the Network Card from the drop-down, and clicking Renew.
If the Network Switch icon is not showing in the System Tray (Systray)
Perform ONE of the following three methods:
1. Download and Install the Toshiba Network Switch applet available from the Toshiba Web site at www.pcsupport.toshiba.com.
2. Manually disable the RealTek RTL8139 Family Fast Ethernet NIC in Device Manager when you are not connected to a Local Area network (LAN)
3. Configure TCP/IP for the RealTek RTL8139 Family Fast Ethernet NIC using a static IP address. The last option is not recommended unless you are familiar with setting up TCP/IP using static IP addresses.- Resolution
