Issue

A notebook computer attached to the Targus Mobile Port Station (PAEPR090) may not start (may not respond to the power button being pressed). The computer may also not resume correctly from the Standby or Hibernate state.

Resolution

Disabling Legacy USB Support in the BIOS will permit the computer to start and resume normally when attached to the Targus Mobile Port Station.

Legacy USB support makes the USB ports available for use with the MS-DOS operating system. This feature must be enabled in order to boot / start the computer from a diskette in an external USB diskette drive. This feature is also required for using USB keyboards and mice when the compter has been started / booted from MS-DOS. This feature is not required for using USB devices with MS-DOS if Windows XP has been started (without the Windows UI running).

Procedure

Follow these steps to disable USB Legacy Support:

 1.  Turn the computer on (without attaching it to the Mobile Port Station).

 2.  Immediately press the F2 key, to enter BIOS Setup.

 3.  In the BIOS Setup screen, press the Right Arrow key to move the cursor to the Advanced section.

 4.  Press the Down Arrow key to move the cursor to Legacy USB Support.

 5.  Press the Spacebar once to disable Legacy USB Support

 6.  Press the F10 key to Save and Exit.

 7.  Press the Y key to confirm.

The computer will now restart, with USB Legacy Support disabled. The computer should now work correctly with the Targus Mobile Port Station
