- Issue
- After installing Windows95 OS, drivers and utilities on a Tecra 8200, the Device Manager reports and Unknown Device: "PCI CardBus Bridge"
- Procedure
- To correct this problem, modify the registry as follows:
- Run Regedit.
- In the Registry Editor Window click on Edit then Find/Search.
- Place a Check Mark in the box for Match whole string only.
- In the text box, type "PCI CardBus Bridge" and click Find.
- Change the Registry key CLASS from "unknown" to "Toshiba PCI CardBus Bridge".
- Close the Registry Editor window and reboot the computer.
COMMENTS:
If the device does not have a yellow bang (!) or red "X" on its icon, then the device is functioning properly but is misidentified by the OS. This is a limitation of the OS and is common when an older Operating System does not properly recognize newer technology and there are no Service Packs from the OS manufacturer to provide more current files. To clean up the Device Manager and keep it from displaying the Unknown Device, "masking" the device through the registry is required. - Resolution
