Issue
How do I play a DVD movie on my television?
Procedure
ITEMS REQUIRED:
  • A television with separate video and audio input jacks
  • The video cable that came with your Tecra 8100DVD. This cable is approximately 7.25 inches in length and has a female RCA connector on one end and a male mini jack connector on the other end. Both ends of the cable have yellow connector jackets.
  • An RCA type video cable with male connectors at both ends. The length of this cable will be determined by the distance between the television and the computer.
Note: This cable can be purchased at most home electronics stores.
  • An audio cable with a male stereo mini jack at one end and two male RCA connectors at the other end. The length of this cable will be determined by the distance between the television or stereo receiver and the computer.
NOTE: The audio cable which can be purchased at most home electronics stores is optional and is only needed if you wish to play audio using your television speakers or stereo system.
SETUP:
  1. Plug the male connector of the video cable that came with your Tecra 8100DVD into the composite video port on the Tecra 8100DVD. Please refer to page six of the Tecra 8100 User's Guide for the location of the composite video port.
  2. Connect the video cable to the video cable that came with your computer and the other end to the video input jack on your television.
  3. If you want to play the audio portion of your DVD title using your television speakers or stereo system you will need to use a separate audio cable with mini jack and RCA connectors.

Mini jack:
Connect the end of the audio cable with the mini jack connector to the headphone jack located on the left side of the computer. Refer to Page 3 of the user's guide for the exact location of headphone jack.

RCA Connectors:
Plug the other end of the audio cable directly to the audio input jacks on your television or you can connect it to an audio input of your stereo receiver. Please refer to you stereo receiver documentation for instructions on connecting to your stereo receiver.
Special Audio Note: You will not be able to hear the movie in Dolby digital 5.1 sound.

  1. Turn on your television and select the appropriate video/audio input.
  2. Turn on the computer.
  3. Right click on an open area of your desktop. This will display your "Display Properties" window.
  4. Click on the "Settings" tab then click on the "Advanced" button. The "S3 Inc. Savage/MX w/MV Properties" window will appear.
  5. Click on the "S3 DuoView+" tab. Now you need to decide if you want to show the DVD movie on the television only or on the television and internal LCD display simultaneously.

TELEVISION ONLY
  1. Under "Display Devices", select "TV" and click on "Apply".
  2. The internal display will disappear and the screen will appear on your television. You will have 15 seconds to confirm you want to keep these changes.
  3. NOTE: The desktop displayed on your television will likely be larger than the viewable area. By using the accupoint or mouse you can scroll the desktop image by moving the pointer in the direction you wish to move the viewable area.

TELEVISION AND INTERNAL DISPLAY

  1. Under "Controller Options" select "Dual controller".
  2. Under "Display Devices", select "LCD/TV" and click on "Apply".
  3. A "S3 DuoView+" window appears stating your settings will be tested, click on "OK".
  4. Confirm you want to keep the new mode settings by clicking on "Yes".
  1. Click on "Start", select "Programs", "Mediamatics DVDExpress" and double click on "Mediamatics DVD Player".
  2. The DVDExpress user interface will be displayed. In the lower left hand corner of the user interface there will be a button with a box inside and a check mark inside the box. This is the DVD options button. Click on the DVD options button.
  3. The DVD Options window will appear. Click on the Display tab. Place a check in the white box to the left of "TV-out Mode" by clicking on it. Then click on "Apply" and then on "OK". This will enable the TV-out Mode.
The TV-out Mode optimizes the desktop resolution for the best TV-out compatibility. This means the image displayed on your computer's LCD display will be reduced in size and cannot be viewed full screen.
NOTE: In order to enable the TV-out Mode you must have Theater Mode selected which is selected by default.
  4. Insert your DVD movie title into the DVD drive. If the movie title does not auto play, click on the play button located on the DVDExpress user interface.
COMMENTS:
It is not possible to play a DVD movie on a television connected to the laptop while using the Windows desktop for other applications as described in the User's Guide.
