- Issue
All notebook computers use some power while they are turned off. This power consumption is increased when the Wake-up on LAN feature is enabled, especially on the models listed in this bulletin.Wake-up on LAN (often called "Wake-on LAN") is a feature that turns the computer on when a wake-up signal is received from a server on a Local Area Network (LAN). If you know that your network does not use the Wake-up on LAN feature, you can disable it to minimize power consumption.
Wake-up on LAN is enabled / disabled through the Toshiba HW Setup utility, or through BIOS Setup.- Resolution
- If you are using Wake-up on LAN, keep the computer's AC adapter connected to the computer, and plugged into an AC power outlet.
- If you are not using Wake-up on LAN, make sure that it's disabled, using one of the two procedures below.
- Procedure
Using HW Setup to enable / disable Wake-up on LAN in Windows
1. Click the Windows Start button, then click Control Panel.
2. Click Switch to Classic View (if that option appears at left).
3.. Double click the Toshiba HWSetup icon. The HWSetup utility will start.
4. Click the LAN tab.
The Wake-up on LAN section of the window shows the current status of this feature (as above).
5. To change the status of Wake-up on LAN, click either Enabled or Disabled .
6. Click the OK button.
7. Click Yes in the warning message above.
The computer will restart, and reload Windows.
If the HWSetup utility is not installed on the computer, use the following method to check the status of the Wake-up on LAN feature, and optionally, to change it.
Using BIOS (CMOS) Setup to enable / disable Wake-up on LAN
1. Press the computer's power button.
2. Immediately press and hold the Esc key, then press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup program should appear, as in the illustration below.

4. If there's no need to change the Wake-up on LAN status setting, then press the ESC key to exit without saving any changes, and press the Y key at the confirmation prompt. The computer will continue to start, and load Windows.
To change the Wake-up on LAN status setting, press the Spacebar. The setting will change from Enabled to Disabled, or vice versa.
