General information regarding the use of the Reset button on Toshiba portables.
Procedure
Toshiba has equipped each Toshiba portable computer with a Reset button which resides behind a small hole located either on the front or on one of the sides of the computer. The Reset hole is marked with the word Reset over a small diamond shape icon. Consult the specifc model's User's Guide for more information on the use and location of the Reset button.

The purpose of the reset button is to bypass the power button. Occasionnaly a computer may lock due to a software or hardware related issue or conflict. If for some reason the computer does hang, lock or will not shut down properly, you tap the reset button and the computer will hard reboot.

Note: The computer will reboot even if it has been set to Resume, Standby or Hibernate mode.

Satellite 1600 Series Note:
The Reset button on the Satellite 1600 Series is slightly different than most Toshiba Notebooks and when the Reset button is pushed will reset and then simply power off the computer.

PRESSING THE BUTTON:
To press the Reset button use the tip of a paper clip, ball point pen or other small pointed object and care should be taken because it only takes a slight pressure to push the Reset button in.

WARNING:
Never use a pencil or other carbon based device to push the Reset button. Broken lead, carbon or other small particles that might enter the inside of the computer through the reset button hole could do permanent damage to the system.
