- Issue
- After installing additional memory into the Satellite 1605CDS or 1625CDT, the system will display a brief message during boot indicating that the "Save to disk feature is disabled".
- Procedure
1) Restart the system by clicking Start/Shutdown/Restart from the Windows 98 Start menu and then click OK. 2) The red Toshiba In Touch with Tomorrow will display. As soon as it disappears, tap the F8 key. 3) The Microsoft Windows 98 Startup Menu will display. Use the down arrow key to highlight Command Prompt Only and then press the Enter key. 4) At the C:\> prompt, type PHDISK and then press the Enter key. The PHDISK Save to Disk Preparation Utility Screen will be displayed showing the current size of the Save file, if one currently exists and four menu options. If the Save File is present on the hard drive the options will be 1) Create file, 2) Delete file, 3) Reboot, and 4) Exit. If the Save File is not present the options will be 1) Create partition, 2) Create file, 3) Reboot, and 4) Exit. If the Save File currently exists, perform the following steps: 1) Press 2 and then press the Enter key to select Delete file. There will be a 5-10 second delay, the screen will blank out, come back, and the message "No Save to Disk area exists. Please allocate a Save to Disk area" will be displayed in the area directly above the menu options. 2) Press 2 and then press the Enter key to select Create file. 3) At the "Please input size (minimal: xxxxxxk)" prompt, press the Enter key to create the file with the suggested file size. The number shown in parenthesis after the word minimal will be the total installed memory (expressed in kilobytes) + 5568k. After the Enter key is pressed, there will be a 5-10 second delay, the screen will blank out, come back on, and the area above the menu options will show the name and size of the Save File. 4) Press 3 and then press the Enter key to select Reboot. System will reboot and the "Save to disk feature is disabled" message during boot will no longer be displayed. If the Save File currently does not exist, perform the following steps: 1) Press 2 and then press the Enter key to select Create file. 2) At the "Please input size (minimal: xxxxxxk)" prompt, press the Enter key to create the file with the suggested file size. The number shown in parenthesis after the word minimal will be the total installed memory (expressed in kilobytes) + 5568k. After the Enter key is pressed, there will be a 5-10 second delay, the screen will blank out, come back on, and the area above the menu options will show the name and size of the Save File. 3) Press 3 and then press the Enter key to select Reboot. System will reboot and the "Save to disk feature is disabled" message during boot will no longer be displayed. COMMENTS: The hibernation file on the Satellite 1605CDS and 1625CDT does not adjust dynamically to the amount of installed memory. PHDISK will need to be run to delete and then recreate the Save (hibernation) File size whenever the amount of installed memory changes.
