- Issue
- A system crash will occur if a user attempts to update the Adaptec SCSI drivers during the NetWare 5 installation or from the NWCONFIG Utility after an installation.
- Procedure
During the installation of NetWare 5 use the driver found by the installation program as described in the addendum information below. To update the driver: 1. Create the "Adaptec 7800 Family Manager Set, v3.03, for OS/2 and NetWare" diskette from the Server Setup Tool CD-ROM, "Create Floppy Disks" utility and insert it into the floppy drive on the NW5 server. 2. Locate the following files in the /Netware folder on the disk: Aic78u2.ham Aic78u2.ddi 3. Locate the same files in the Netware installation folders on the server (i.e., /nwserver or /nwserver/drivers) and rename them: Aic78u2._am Aic78u2._di. 4. Copy the files from the diskette to the correct Netware folder and restart your NetWare 5 server. The following addendum has been added to the Magnia 3030 Server box: Novell (tm) NetWare(tm) 5.0 For NetWare 5.0 please use drivers provided for NetWare 4.x. Issue: Updating Adaptec drivers during installation or from NWCONFIG after installation will cause a system crash. Please disregard the driver update information in the SST Manual, under "Installing NetWare 5.0 Drivers", pages 59 to 64. There will be several screens within the installation process where you will need to choose the correct driver: 1. RAID driver: Choose MEGA4_XX.HAM, not I2OPCI.NLM 2. Storage adapters: AIC78U2, AIC78U2, IDEATA, MEGA4_XX 3. "Device Types": Storage Devices: IDECD, SCSIHD Network Boards: E100B IMPORTANT: DO NOT attempt to update Adaptec 78xx drivers from within either the NetWare installation process or post-installation through NWCONFIG. You may update the RAID and NIC adapter drivers manually using NWCONFIG after the installation is complete. For details, please refer to the readme.txt file, section "Installing the Driver in an Existing NetWare v4.xx Installation" in the following directory: CD-ROM]:\Public\SCSI\Adaptec\AIC7896\Disk2\Netware\
