How do I enable/disable a user password on the Toshiba V3100 desktop? - Procedure
To enable a supervisor password perform the following steps: 1) Power on the system or Click Start/Shutdown/Restart and OK to restart system. 2) Press the Del (Delete) key when the Toshiba logo screen appears. 3) On the BIOS utility screen, use the down arrow to highlight "Change Supervisor Password" and press the Enter key. 4) A box will appear prompting the user to "Enter new supervisor password". Enter a supervisor password and press the enter key. 5) A box will appear prompting the user to "Retype new supervisor password". Retype the supervisor password entered in step 4 and press the Enter key. 6) The message "New supervisor password installed, press any key to continue" will appear. Press the Enter key to continue. 7) Press the F10 key on the keyboard and press the Enter key to save the current settings and exit CMOS. To disable a supervisor password perform the following steps: 1) Power on the system or Click Start/Shutdown/Restart and OK to restart system. 2) Press the Del (Delete) key when the Toshiba logo screen appears. 3) User will be prompted to "Enter CURRENT Password:". Enter the current supervisor password and press the Enter key. 4) On the BIOS utility screen, use the down arrow to highlight "Change Supervisor Password" and press the Enter key. 5) A box will appear prompting the user to "Enter current supervisor password". Enter a supervisor password and press the Enter key. 6) A box will appear prompting the user to "Enter new supervisor password". Press the Enter key. 7) The message "Supervisor password disabled, press any key to continue" will appear. Press the Enter key to continue. 8) The message "User password disabled, press any key to continue" will appear. Press the Enter key to continue. 9) Press the F10 key on the keyboard and press the Enter key to save the current settings and exit CMOS. Note: Disabling the supervisor password will also disable the user password. To enable a user password perform the following steps: Note: The supervisor password must be enabled in order to have the ption to set a user password. 1) Make sure that a supervisor password is enabled or the Change User Password option will be grayed out in CMOS. 2) Power on the system or click Start/Shutdown/Restart and OK to restart system. 3) Press the Del (Delete) key when the Toshiba logo screen appears. 4) User will be prompted to "Enter CURRENT Password:". Enter the current supervisor password and press the Enter key. 5) On the BIOS utility screen, use the down arrow to highlight "Change User Password" and press the Enter key. 6) A box will appear prompting the user to "Enter new user password." Enter a user password and press the Enter key. 7) A box will appear prompting the user to "Retype new user password." Retype the user password entered in step 6 and press the Enter key. 8) The message "New user password installed, press any key to continue" will appear. Press the Enter key to continue. 9) Press the F10 key on the keyboard and press the Enter key to save the current settings and exit CMOS. To disable a user password perform the following steps: 1) Power on the system or click Start/Shutdown/Restart and OK to restart system. 2) Press the Del (Delete) key when the Toshiba logo screen appears. User will be prompted to "Enter CURRENT Password:" Enter the current user password and press the Enter key. 3) On the BIOS utility screen, the "Change User Password" should already be highlighted. Press the Enter key. 4) A box will appear prompting the user to "Enter current user password." Enter the current user password and press the Enter key. 5) A box will appear prompting the user to "Enter new user password." Press the Enter key. 6) The message "User password disabled, press any key to continue" will appear. Press the Enter key to continue. 7) Press the F10 key on the keyboard and press the Enter key to save the current settings and exit CMOS. COMMENTS: Both the supervisor and user passwords are case sensitive. By default, enabling a supervisor password on the Toshiba V3100 desktop will allow the system to boot, but the user will be unable to change the CMOS settings without entering the correct password. If it is desired to prevent the system from booting unless the correct password is entered, change the Password Check option under Advanced CMOS setup from Setup to Always (use the Page Up/Page Down keys to modify), press the Esc key once to get back to the main setup screen, press the F10 key, and then press the Enter key to Save Settings and Exit. - If a supervisor password is enabled, and the correct password is entered, the user will have full access to CMOS. - If a user password is enabled, and the correct password is entered, the user will have limited access to CMOS. - User password will only allow the user to change the user password, exit without saving, or save settings and exit.
