- Issue
- Windows 2000 hangs during Setup on Magnia 3000 and Magnia 3010 Servers with an AMI FlexRAID MR-762 Card Installed.
- Procedure
The AMI MR-762 will not be supported under Windows 2000. Comments: Microsoft does not support the complete SISL (MR-762) solution under Windows 2000. The SISL solution is basically a modified PCI slot which allows a PCI card to take control of the SCSI controllers on the Motherboard. This type of implementation creates a number of issues with PnP because, as of today, as soon as Windows 2000 detects a device, it will load and start the LSI driver. There is no way to stop Windows 2000 from loading the LSI Driver and SISL solutions such as the MR-762 require that the LSI Driver is not automatically loaded. Otherwise, it will conflict with the MR-762 Firmware. This issue affects both the AMI MR-762 and Mylex AcceleRAID Series Card. The Official Microsoft statement is that they do not have any plans to support SISL Based Solutions under Windows 2000. WARNING: Attempting to install Windows 2000 on a Magnia Server equipped with an AMI MR-762 Card with BIOS Version 1.12 Firmware Version 1.06 may result in the destruction of the MR-762 Firmware. If this occurs, it will be impossible to re-Flash the firmware as the system will hang during POST. A replacement card will be required. This is a side effect of the LSI Driver loading automatically.
