Configuring the DVD feature after a clean installation on Windows 98
Procedure
In order to complete the following procedure you will need the Recovery/Application CD that came with the system.

Installing the Display Adapter Driver from the Recovery/Application CD

Note: Installing the Display Adapter Driver from the Recovery/Application CD is necessary in order successfully install and configure the DVD option.
  1. Insert the Recovery/Application CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Right click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop.
  3. Click Properties.
  4. The "System Properties" window will appear. Click the "Device Manager" tab.
  5. Under device category, double click "Display Adapters."
  6. Under Display adapters, double click "S3 ViRGE-MX [260]."
  7. The "S3 ViRGE-MX [260] Properties" window will appear. Click the "Driver" tab.
  8. Towards the bottom right hand corner of the window there will be a button labelled "Update Driver." Click the "Update Driver" button.
  9. The "Update Device Driver Wizard" window will appear. Click "Next" to continue.
  10. The Update Device Driver Wizard will ask how you what windows to search for drivers. Select "Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want." Click "Next" to continue.
  11. The Update Device Driver Wizard will ask you to select the manufacturer and model of your hardware. Under "Model:" it will say "S3 ViRGE-MX [260] [5-11-1998]" and "Show compatible hardware" will be selected. Click "Have Disk…"
  12. The "install From Disk" window will appear. Under "Copy manufacturers files from," enter "D:\display." Click "OK" to continue.
  13. The "Select Device" window will appear. Under "Models", the model "S3 Inc. ViRGE/MX will be highlighted. Click "OK" to continue.
  14. An "Update Driver Warning" window will appear stating the current driver may be a closer match for your hardware device. Click "Yes" to continue.
  15. The "Update Device Driver Wizard" window will appear saying it is now ready to install the selected driver for this device. The location of driver to read "D:\DISPLAY\S3VMX.INF." Click "Next" to continue.
  16. The Update Device Driver Wizard will begin copying the files to the hard drive.
  17. A "Version Conflict" window will appear for file "s3_3.drv." Click "No" to continue.
  18. A "Version Conflict" window will appear for file "s3_32v.dll." Click "No" to continue.
  19. A "Version Conflict" window will appear for file s3vdd2.vxd." Click "No" to continue.
  20. The "Update Device Driver Wizard" window will appear stating it has finished installing the driver you selected for you hardware device. Click "Finish" to continue.
  21. The "System Settings Change" window will appear asking you if you want to restart your computer now. Click "Yes" to continue.

Configuring Display Properties

Note: After installing the Display Adapter Driver, the display screen may have approximately a two-inch border around it. The following step will configure the display to full screen.
  1. Right click a blank area of the desktop. A menu will appear. Single click "Properties." The "Display Properties" window will appear.
  2. Single click the "Settings" tab.
  3. Towards the lower right hand corner of this window there is a setting for "Screen area." Drag the slider to the right until it reads "1024 by 768 pixels." Click "Apply" to continue.
  4. A "Display Properties" window will appear states that windows will now resize your desktop. Click "OK" to continue.
  5. A "Monitor Settings" window will appear asking if you want to keep this setting. Click "Yes."
  6. Your display will now be configured to full screen. You can now close the display properties window by clicking on "OK."

Installing the DVD Decoder Driver

  1. Insert the Recovery/Application CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. The Toshiba Application CD will auto play. A window will appear displaying "TOSHIBA Application CD Setup" at the top. Using the slider, scroll down the selection window and select DVD Soft Setup Drivers by clicking on "DVD Soft Setup Drivers." Click the "install" button to continue.
  3. A DOS window will appear saying;
    "When prompted to insert disk2, type: E:\dvd\disk (assuming that E: is the CD-ROM drive)
    
    Press any key to continue"
    
  4. Press any key to continue.
  5. Setup will start and the "Welcome" window will appear. Click "Next" to continue.
  6. The "Choose Destination Location" windows will appear. Leave the destination directory at "C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\DVDPlay" and click "Next" to continue.
  7. The "Select Components" window will appear. Select "M5" and click "Next" to continue.
  8. Setup will begin copying the necessary files to the hard drive.
  9. The "Setup Needs The Next Disk" window will appear asking for the path for disk 2. Under path, type in "D:\DVD\disk2" and click "OK" to continue.
  10. Setup will finish copying the necessary files to the hard drive.
  11. The "Setup Complete" window will appear with the "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" selected. Click "Finish" to continue.
  12. After the system restarts, open up the system properties window by right clicking on the "My Computer" icon on the desktop.
  13. Enter the device manager by clicking on the "Device Manager" tab.
  14. Located the device category titled "? Other devices" and open it up by single clicking on the "+" sign.
  15. Highlight "PCI Multimedia Device" by single clicking on it. Click the "Remove" button.
  16. The "Confirm Device Removal" window will appear. Click "OK" to continue.
  17. After the "PCI Multimedia Device" has been removed, click the "Refresh" button. Windows will now detect new hardware (PCI Multimedia Device).
  18. The "Add New Hardware Wizard" window will appear stating that will search for new drivers for "PCI Multimedia Device." Click "Next" to continue.
  19. The "Add New Hardware Wizard" will prompt you to tell it how to search for the driver for your device. Select "Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want." Click "Next" to continue.
  20. The "Add New Hardware Wizard" will prompt you to select the type of device from a list. Using the slider, scroll down and select "Sound, video and game controllers" by single clicking on it. Click "Next" to continue.
  21. The "Add New Hardware Wizard" window will appear. You will not need to select "Manufacture" or "Models." Click "Have Disk" to continue.
  22. The "install From Disk" window will appear. Under "Copy manufacturer's files from," enter "D:\DVD." Click "OK" to continue.
  23. The "Select Device" window will appear. Under "Models," the device "TOSHIBA DVD Decoder Board Ver2.0" will be highlighted. Click "OK" to continue.
  24. The "Add New Hardware Wizard" window will appear stating it is ready to install the selected device and the location on the driver is "D:\DVD\DVD02.INF." Click "Next" to continue.
  25. Add New Hardware Wizard will begin copying the files to the hard drive. When Add New Hardware Wizard has completed copying the necessary files, click "Finish" to continue.

Installing the DVD Player Application

  1. Insert the Recovery/Application CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. The Toshiba Application CD will auto play. A window will appear displaying "TOSHIBA Application CD Setup" at the top. Using the slider, scroll down the selection window and select the DVD Player by clicking on "DVD Player." Click the "install" button to continue.
  3. Setup will start and the "Welcome" window will appear. Click "Next" to continue.
  4. The "Select Program Folder" window will appear. Click "Next" to continue.
  5. The "Start Copying Files" windows will appear. Under "Current Settings," the Target Directory will read "C:\Program Files\Toshiba and under Program Folder it will read "Toshiba Media Player." Click "Next" to continue.
  6. Setup will begin copying the necessary files to the hard drive.
  7. When setup has finished copying the files, the "Restarting Windows" window will appear.
  8. Select "Yes, I want to restart my computer now." Click "OK" to continue.
