Internal Modem Installation Procedure for Windows NT 4.0
Procedure
Note: Log on to Windows NT 4.0 with administrative rights to perform this procedure. The latest stable NT Service Pack needs to be reinstalled prior to following this procedure. Toshiba's internal modem driver needs to be downloaded and extracted from the Toshiba web site at http://pcsupport.toshiba.com prior to using this procedure if applicable. If installing the Toshiba V.90 modem driver skip to scenario 2 below.

Manual installation of Toshiba Internal V.34 modems

  1. Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel
  2. Double Click on Ports
  3. Delete all Ports except for COM1 (If prompted to restart, click on Don't Restart)
  4. Double click on Modems
  5. Delete all modems listed.
  6. Shut down the computer.
  7. Press and hold down the ESC key and turn the system on. (Do not release the ESC key until the system prints a message "Check system, press F1". Then, release the ESC key and press F1.)
  8. Press the PGDN key one time
  9. Check the I/O ports category for the Internal Modem, navigate using the arrow keys on the keyboard.
  10. Set the modem to use COM2, IO address 2F8, IRQ 3 by pressing the spacebar (the option for the 2nd IRQ should be set to "Not Used").
  11. Press the END key followed by Y for yes to save changes and reboot.
  12. Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel
  13. Double Click on Ports
  14. Add Com 2. The I/O Address should be set 02F8. The IRQ should be set to 3.
  15. Choose "Don't Restart" and Close.
  16. Double click on Modems
  17. Choose "Don't detect my modem" Note: If you did not find a modem driver on the website, select AT&T as the manufacturer. Choose AT&T DataPort Express V.34 (28.8) as the model. Move to Step 21.
  18. Click Have Disk.
  19. In the "Copy Manufacturers files from:" field type C:\MODEM and press Enter. (This directory is present only after you download the modem driver file from the website and extract it.)
  20. A Toshiba Internal Modem should be listed, select it.
  21. Click Next.
  22. Choose Com 2.
  23. Click Finish. (Modem Properties should be displayed. Click Close.)
  24. Restart the computer.
  25. Test the modem with a reliable ISP connection or Hyperterminal (Start/Programs/Accessories/Hyperterminal). Note: Further manipulation of RAS (Remote Access Service) may be necessary before connecting to an internet service provider. If RAS needs to be reconfigured contact the ISP's support staff. The latest NT Service Pack may need to be reinstalled after making changes to RAS before working correctly.
Self-installing Toshiba Internal V.90 Driver

V.90 Installation procedure

  1. Download and extract the V90_56K.EXE V.90 flash upgrade file from the Toshiba web site at http://pcsupport.toshiba.com) or the Toshiba BBS (949-837-4408, 8-N-1, up to 33.6 kbps) and download the V.90 flash upgrade file V90_56K.EXE.
  2. Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel.
  3. Double click on Ports.
  4. Delete all Ports except for COM 1 (If prompted to restart, click on Don't Restart)
  5. Double click on Modems.
  6. Delete all modems listed..
  7. Shut down and restart computer.
  8. Click Start, Programs, Windows NT Explorer (The C: drive will be open)
  9. Double Click on the MODEM.TOS or MODEM.NT folder.
  10. Double click on SETUP.EXE
  11. Choose the option "Install New Modem".
  12. Click Next.
  13. The setup routine may warn that required files are already installed on the hard drive. Answer with a Yes.
  14. Windows NT will prompt to restart. Select Finish. The computer should reboot and the modem should function.

It is recommended to reconfigure RAS (Remote Access Service) with the assistance of the ISP (or server's) administration. The latest NT Service Pack may need to be reinstalled for the changes to take effect properly.
