Procedure
Precautions while using DVDEXPRESS

Thank you for your purchase of a Toshiba computer. Please read the following precautions for using DVDEXPRESS on this computer.

About the Display's Resolution
DVDEXPRESS is initially setup so that when a DVD title begins playback, the display resolution switches to the optimal resolution of 800 x 600 x 256 colors ( With these settings, when DVD playback begins the resolution will be 800 x 600, but the original number of colors of the DVD will be displayed, not necessarily 256.) When playback ends, the display will switch back to the original settings. Also with these settings, on DVD titles for NTSC, a feature called Motion Compensation can be used without causing the CPU in your system to work harder, to give enhanced playback of sound.

The above settings can be adjusted by pushing DVD EXPRESS's DVD Option button then, under the dialog box [Display] tab are the check boxes for "800 x 600" and "256 colors". When checked, this feature becomes enabled.

Do not make changes to the resolution by opening the display properties for Windows98 while a DVD title is playing. The image will become jumbled.

Also, in this computer's display properties initial settings, the display stretch feature is turned on. This feature stretches the displayed image to completely fill the screen for 800 x 600 images, which are smaller than 1024 x 768 images. (In order to stretch the image there may be some slight distortion.)

Furthermore, if this display stretch feature is used and linear PCM 96khz 24bit sound data is played, breaks in the sound may occur. If playing DVD titles containing linear PCM 96khz 24bit sound data, please turn off the display stretch feature. The feature setting may be changed by opening Display Properties, then selecting [Advanced] in the [Settings] tab and under the [Flat Panel] tab, and then checking or unchecking "Display stretch".

About Suspend and Resume while a DVD title is in play
If the system is suspended while a DVD title is playing, when resumed DVDEXPRESS is stopped. For most DVD titles, pushing the Play button will resume playback from the point where it stopped when suspended.

Do not switch the display while a DVD title is in play.
By pressing the computer's Fn + F5 keys, it is possible to switch the display between an external CRT and the internal LCD. However, please do not use this feature while playing a DVD title, as the image will become jumbled.

Use DVDEXPRESS for playing DVD titles only.
DVDEXPRESS supports only DVD media. Use other, appropriate, applications to play other types of media, such as Audio CD.

Do not dock or undock your computer while playing a DVD.
Docking/undocking is not supported while DVDEXPRESS is in use. On machines which are capable of connecting to a docking station, please refrain from docking or undocking while DVDEXPRESS is in use.

About multi-monitors while a DVD title is in play
If playing a DVD title on Windows98 multi-monitor, the playing screen can appear only on the internal LCD. For more information on multi- monitors, please refer to the "Multi-monitor Support" topic in Windows Help.
