- Noteworthy CD Recovery Tool Diskette Creation Steps
Before using your portable NoteWorthy 24X CD-ROM, it is strongly recommended that you create a CD Recovery Tool Diskette in the event you need to restore your hard drive to the original manufacturer's image provided on a CD. Numerous Notebook manufacturers provide a recovery or restore CD containing all the factory installed software. Creating the DisketteThe CD Recovery Tool Diskette is necessary to access your CD-ROM drive if you replaced or upgraded your Hard Drive and you can no longer boot your Notebook to Windows.
- Power on the computer to Windows
- Go to the Start/Settings/Control Panel
- Double-click on Add/Remove Program and click on the Startup Disk tab
- Click on Create Disk. Follow the instructions to create a Windows Startup Disk. Label this disk "CD Recovery Tool Diskette."
- Remove the newly created diskette from your Floppy Drive and insert your portable NoteWorthy 24X CD-ROM driver diskette
- Open 'My Computer' and double click the Floppy Drive icon (3½ Floppy (A))
- Drag the following 4 files from your floppy disk onto your desktop:
AUTOEXEC.BAT
CONFIG.SYS
MSCDEX.EXE
NW24XCD.SYS - (Then) Remove the NoteWorthy 24X CD-ROM driver diskette from your Floppy Drive, (and) then reinsert the CD Recovery Tool Diskette, which you just created.
- Drag the 4 files just copied onto your desktop (on) to your Floppy Drive icon {3½ Floppy (A)} in the 'My Computer' window.
- Once that is done, your CD Recovery Tool Diskette is complete. Store in a safe place.
Using the Diskette
In the event you need to restore your hard drive to the original manufacturer's image provided on a CD, the CD Recovery Tool Diskette is necessary to access your CD-ROM drive when you can no longer (power on) boot your computer into Windows.
- Make sure there are no other PC Cards inserted in your notebook's slots
- Insert the NW24XCD into PC Card Slot 1
- Insert the CD Recovery Tool Diskette into you floppy drive and restart or power on the notebook
Note: The Drive letter of the CD-ROM drive is reported on the screen; the default is Drive Q:.
After your notebook has restarted, you'll have access to your CD-ROM drive. Follow the user's guide instructions on running the Recovery or Restore process.
