How to create a Noteworthy 24X CD-ROM Recovery Diskette.
Procedure
Noteworthy CD Recovery Tool Diskette Creation Steps Before using your portable NoteWorthy 24X CD-ROM, it is strongly recommended that you create a CD Recovery Tool Diskette in the event you need to restore your hard drive to the original manufacturer's image provided on a CD. Numerous Notebook manufacturers provide a recovery or restore CD containing all the factory installed software.

The CD Recovery Tool Diskette is necessary to access your CD-ROM drive if you replaced or upgraded your Hard Drive and you can no longer boot your Notebook to Windows.

Creating the Diskette

  1. Power on the computer to Windows
  2. Go to the Start/Settings/Control Panel
  3. Double-click on Add/Remove Program and click on the Startup Disk tab
  4. Click on Create Disk. Follow the instructions to create a Windows Startup Disk. Label this disk "CD Recovery Tool Diskette."
  5. Remove the newly created diskette from your Floppy Drive and insert your portable NoteWorthy 24X CD-ROM driver diskette
  6. Open 'My Computer' and double click the Floppy Drive icon (3½ Floppy (A))
  7. Drag the following 4 files from your floppy disk onto your desktop:

    AUTOEXEC.BAT
    CONFIG.SYS
    MSCDEX.EXE
    NW24XCD.SYS

  8. (Then) Remove the NoteWorthy 24X CD-ROM driver diskette from your Floppy Drive, (and) then reinsert the CD Recovery Tool Diskette, which you just created.
  9. Drag the 4 files just copied onto your desktop (on) to your Floppy Drive icon {3½ Floppy (A)} in the 'My Computer' window.
  10. Once that is done, your CD Recovery Tool Diskette is complete. Store in a safe place.

Using the Diskette

In the event you need to restore your hard drive to the original manufacturer's image provided on a CD, the CD Recovery Tool Diskette is necessary to access your CD-ROM drive when you can no longer (power on) boot your computer into Windows.

  1. Make sure there are no other PC Cards inserted in your notebook's slots
  2. Insert the NW24XCD into PC Card Slot 1
  3. Insert the CD Recovery Tool Diskette into you floppy drive and restart or power on the notebook

Note: The Drive letter of the CD-ROM drive is reported on the screen; the default is Drive Q:.

After your notebook has restarted, you'll have access to your CD-ROM drive. Follow the user's guide instructions on running the Recovery or Restore process.
