- Issue
- How to install Netware 4.11 onto a Magnia Server.
- Procedure
- Installing NetWare 4.11
- If you are using the Server Setup Tool to setup the server, at the OS Install Selection screen, choose Install MS-DOS. A 55MB Utility Partition for diagnostic tools and a 55MB DOS partition will be created on which an MS-DOS operating system will be installed.
- Refer to the Novell NetWare 4.11 installation manual for detailed instructions. This section will offer information unique to the hardware provided with your Magnia Server.
- The following diskettes are necessary to install
NetWare 4.11. Create them in advance, referring to the
instructions given in Creating driver and utility
diskettes, or if using SST to install DOS, create the
following diskettes before exiting the install procedure:
- PCI SCSI NetWare & OS2 Driver Diskette
- Intel EtherExpress Pro/100+ Server Adapter drivers
- MegaRAID Drives & Utilities Netware (Provided with the adapter card)
Before installing NetWare
- Start the setup utility, and set PCI IRQs to IO-APIC mapping to disabled on the Server menu. If this item remains enabled, the interrupts may not be processed normally using NetWare.
- Using the MegaRAID Manager, change the Logical Drive Write Policy to Write Thru.
- Edit the C:\config.sys file to remove or REM out the device=c:\dos\himem.sys and the DOS= HIGH lines. This system file can have adverse affects on the NetWare operating system.
- When asked to Select the type of installation you are performing, choose Custom installation of NetWare 4.11.
- The Automatic Shutdown Function cannot be used on NetWare. If the original settings from the factory are kept, the Auto Shutdown lamp remains lit amber while power is on.
- To disable this function (turning lamp off), refer to Automatic Shutdown Function later in this chapter.
- In case of a dual CPU configuration, the following message appears during installation. Installing SMP?
- When SMP is installed, the multiprocessor-compatible
module is loaded to increase processor speed. Normally,
Yes is selected. Select the following driver from the
driver list:
|| MPS14.PSM || Platform support module for Intel MPS compatible system - Continue the installation as instructed on the screen.
- When an Adapter is detected, a screen similar to
the following appears.
Install found the following hardware but found more than one driver supporting this hardware: PCI.101E.9010.0000.0000.03
Press ENTER for a list of drivers to choose from or F3 to continue without selecting.
- The drivers for the onboard network adapter and the PCI SCSI controller are on the disks created using Toshiba Server Setup Tool before starting this installation. The drivers for the RAID controller are on disks supplied with the adapter card delivered with your server. When the above message is shown on the screen, press F3 to continue.
- When other messages appear on the screen indicating it finds a PCI Disk Controller and a LAN Controller, press F3 to continue past both screens. For additional information regarding the LAN driver, refer to Selecting the driver for the onboard network adapter later in this chapter.
- The next screen will offer the option to Choose the Server Drivers - Summary.
- At the bottom of the screen, choose to Select additional or modify selected…drivers.
- If you see the drivers, SYM8XXNW, DESELECT them.
Next, choose Select an additional driver and press
INSERT. When the next screen appears, insert the PCI
SCSI Netware & OS/2 Driver diskette (created using Toshiba
Server Setup Tool) into the floppy disk drive, then press
ENTER to select Install a driver not on the list. When
the driver list is shown on the screen, select the
following driver:

- Remove the Symbios disk and insert the MegaRAID Drivers
and Utilities (NetWare Support) for your adapter card into
drive A:. Follow the instructions below to install the
drivers for the correct controller.
Note: When a SCSI RAID controller is connected, set up the MegaRAID Manager after installing NetWare. For details on the MegaRAID Manager, refer to the MegaRAID User's Manual. - Continue the installation as instructed on the screen.
- Note: Refer to Chapter 2, Adding an AMI MegaRAID MR-762 RAID Controller for important details when using the MR 762 adapter.
- Insert the AMI MegaRAID Drivers/Utilities for 762
(NetWare Support) diskette (included with the adapter card)
into the floppy disk drive, then press INSERT and ENTER
to select Install a driver not on the list. When the
driver list is shown on the screen, select the following

- Insert the MegaRAID Drivers & Utilities NetWare
diskette into the floppy disk drive, then press INSERT
and ENTER to select Install a driver not on the list.
When the driver list is shown on the screen, select the

- The NetWare 4.11 installation CD does not contain the support files that are compliant with the ODI3.31 specifications. It will be necessary to obtain the latest service pack from Novell to obtain the patches for the new specifications. Proper functionality requires the Toshiba supplied Intel LAN driver which can be installed after loading the service pack.
- In order to upgrade to the newer specifications, first install the Intel Ether Express Pro 100B LAN adapter on the CD by selecting the Network LAN driver from the Choose the Server Drivers - Summary screen. Highlight the Intel LAN driver and press ENTER: "E100B.LAN" Intel Ether Express PRO/100B LAN After completing the driver installation, choose Continue Installation and finish installing NW 4.11 as instructed by the installation manual.
- After the server installation is complete, install the
latest Service Pack from Novell. Then, using Load
Install.nlm, upgrade your LAN driver by inserting the
Intel LAN Drivers and Utilities disk (created from the SST
CD), then press INSERT to select Install a driver not on
the list. Press ENTER. When the driver list is shown
