Issue
After installing Procomm Plus V4.70 on some Toshiba computers (Tecra 8000, Portege 7000, 7010 or 7200 models) running Windows NT 4.0 + Service Pack 3 or 4, users are no longer able to get past the Windows Logon screen because keyboards appear to be locked. This happens in normal or VGA mode. This problem may be severe enough to cause data loss, especially on systems with NTFS partition.
Procedure
It appears that Procomm Plus for Windows NT V4.7 replaces an NT file called RRCTRL.SYS which is needed for RapidRemote feature to work. This RRCTRL.SYS has problem with some advanced video cards such as Matrox, STB Virge and Toshiba Tecra's Neomagic controllers. At this time, Toshiba recommends the following workaround:
  1. Use Procomm Plus V4.0 for Windows NT instead of V4.7 or,
  2. Use Procomm Plus V4.7 for Windows NT without the RapidRemote feature or,
  3. Right after installing Procomm Plus V4.7 for Windows NT with the RapidRemote feature, do not restart the machine. Install NT service pack (SP3 or SP4) before rebooting.
