How can I connect my cellular phone to my Toshiba internal modem?
Procedure
The Toshiba internal modems that support cellular communication are designed to work with the following two types of cellular phones only:
  1. Motorola Elite phones
  2. Motorola MicroTac phones
Each individual modem requires a specific cellular cable (NoteWorthy Direct Connect Cable) that connects the modem and cellular phone. The NoteWorthy Direct Connect Cable is available through Toshiba Acessories, 1-800-959-4100.

The computer must have the built-in cellular modem port which is located next to the RJ-11 modem port.

Upgrade Note: If your Toshiba computer does not have the built-in cellular port it is not cellular ready. The celluar port can not be added and the internal modem cannot be upgraded to add cellular capabilities. A cellular port can not be added to a Toshiba Computer and the internal modem cannot be upgraded to add cellular capabilities. PC Card Cellular Modem Information: Toshiba Accessories offers a PC Card Cellular Modem option that works with many more brands of cell phones. You can contact Toshiba Accessories at 1-800-959-4100 or on the web at http://www.toshiba.com

  1. Is the Cell Phone Selected? This procedure lets you verify whether Windows currently recognizes the cellular readiness of your modem.
    1. Go to Start/Settings/ControlPanel/Modems/Diagnostics
    2. Highlight the COM port the modem is currently assigned to.
    3. Click the More Info button and window titled More Info will display.
In this scenario ATI6 displays "No Cell Phone Selected".
  2. Enabling the Modem for the Cell Phone. To enable the modem so that ATI6 will report "MOTOROLA Cell Phone Selected" proceed with the following steps:
    1. Locate the Toshiba Internal Modem driver Setup program MDMSETUP.EXE:
      • Hard Drive - MDMSETUP was preinstalled on some models in the WINDOWS folder.
      • Backup or Applications CD-ROM. MDMSETUP.EXE is located in one of the following folders. WFW\TOSMODEM W95\TOSMODEM MANUAL\MARSMOD folder MODEM
Note: The MDMSETUP.EXE program is also included when you download related model specific modem drivers from the Toshiba Website: http://www.csd.toshiba.com
  3. Double click the file MDMSETUP.EXE
  4. Press Continue
  5. Click on the "Cellular" button and select "Motorola"( from the drop down list)
    • Note: Motorola may be incorrectly spelled on some systems.
    • Note: Use COM2 as the COM port. There is no selection for "Toshiba Modem Port".
  6. Click on "OK" to finish.
Re-run Procedure A. Modem Diagnostics to verify that ATI6 now reports "MOTOROLA Cell Phone Selected".Note: When using the modem on a cellular phone make sure that "Wait for dial tone before dialing" in the "Modem Properties" - "Connection Tab" is unchecked and that "Use cellular protocol" under "Advanced" is checked.
ATI6 Note: Some Toshiba models use a modem board that will display cellular information on the ATI6 line which is normal. If your Toshiba computer does not have the built-in cellular port it is not cellular ready. The celluar port can not be added and the internal modem cannot be upgraded to add cellular capabilities.
