- Issue
- Serial mouse does not enumerate under Windows 98 even if the Add New Hardware wizard is used to detect new hardware.
- Procedure
Set the power management setting for the serial port from Auto to On in the Power Management Control Panel using the following steps:
Note: System must be running on the power source that you want the power save settings applied to.
- Click Start/Settings/Control Panel.
- Double click the Power Management Control Panel.
- Click Power Save tab.
- Click Power Save Mode.
- Click drop down selection for Serial and select On.
- Click Apply and then click Ok to save and close Power Management Control Panel.
- Click Start/Shutdown/Restart to restart system.
- Click Start/Settings/ Control Panel
- Double click Add New hardware.
- Follow the prompts and select the option to let Windows detect new hardware.
- At the end of the hardware detection phase, Windows will display a dialog box letting the user know that it found new hardware. Clicking on the Details button will reveal what hardware was detected. A Serial Mouse should show up as one of the detected devices. Click Finish.
- Click Start/Shutdown/Restart to restart system. After this restart, serial mouse should work.
