- It occurs often on the Infinia 7130, 7160, and 7200 models when a customer is manually reconfiguring the system (which is necessary since the first generations do not have a recovery package).
To fix this issue you need to extract himem.sys from the Windows cabs (WINDOWS 95_03.CAB for Windows 95A) to the companion diskette and alter the config.sys to load himem.sys.
1. Boot the system up with the companion disk, have the Windows 95/Plus! CD in the drive if available.
2. Exit to DOS from the companion disk menu if the ACC program autolaunches.
3. Locate WINDOWS 95_03.CAB for extraction, there are two locations for the file: Change the directory to c:\windows\options\cabs, if that is not a valid directory goto (x):\Windows 95 where x is the CD-rom letter, usually D: or E: on a first generation Infinia.
4. Type in the following command line: extract /Y Windows 95_03.cab himem.sys /L a: (Keep in mind that himem.sys may be in Windows 95_02.cab, make the proper substitution if necessary)
5. Press, be sure that the companion disk is not write-protected.
6. Type EDIT CONFIG.SYS from an A: prompt.
7. Add the line DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS before the CD-rom load (the second to last line) of the config.sys.
8. Press ALT-F-S in sequential order to save and then ALT-F-X to exit.
9. Restart the system (CTRL-ALT-DEL or reset button).
After rebooting to the companion disk change the directory to the CD-rom drive and run Windows setup.
