
Running 70CT Recovery CD, in external CD-ROM / one slot

- The purpose of this document is to outline a procedure running a recovery with an external CD-ROM using one slot that is available on the 70CT.
Items needed: External PCMCIA CD-ROM
Libretto 70CT Recovery Boot Disk
Libretto 70CT Toshiba Recovery CD
Step 1: Connect the PCMCIA floppy drive, and insert the Recovery Boot Diskette
Step 2: Turn the unit on. The unit will boot from the floppy disk, reset the BIOS, and then reboot.
Step 3: After reboot, the unit will display a warning screen, and gives the user 4 Options. Choose
the option that describes the CD-ROM Drive being used. If your type of CD-ROM drive is
not listed, choose Option 2 (Preinstall Software using Busmaster PCMCIA CD-ROM.)
Step 4: After choosing, the unit will reboot, and proceed to format the hard drive.
Step 5: After formatting the hard drive the unit copies Toshiba Card Manager, Autoexec.bat, and
Config.sys to the hard drive. The unit then prompts the user to Remove Floppy Drive and
Insert SCSI or PC Card, and press CTRL+ALT+DEL.
IF you have the type of CD-ROM listed in the options, and you chose that option, then insert the PCMCIA CD-ROM drive and press CTRL+ALT+DEL. The Restore Program should run normally. If your type was not listed, continue to step 6.
Step 6: DO NOT REMOVE THE FLOPPY DRIVE. Proceed to Step 7.
Step 7: Insert the Companion Diskette into the floppy drive, and reboot the unit.
Step 8: Exit from Companion Diskette Utilities (press Enter, and then choose Exit to DOS). Unit will
be at an A:>_ prompt.
Step 9: Type C: Unit will be at a C:>_ prompt
Step 10: Type MD DOS and press enter.
Step 11: Type COPY A:\MSCDEX.EXE C:\DOS and press enter.
Step 12: Type COPY A:\EDIT.COM
Step 13: TYPE EDIT CONFIG.SYS This opens up the Editor, to allow changes
Step 14: Remove all lines referencing PCMPLUS3, EXCEPT for the first 3, Which references
HIMEM.SYS, EMM386.EXE, and SETVER.EXE. These are required. Hit ALT +F,
choose save, then remove Companion Diskette and reboot
Step 15: Insert the installation diskette provided with the PCMCIA CD-ROM, and Run the DOS
installation located there. This will install the files needed And edit the Config.sys and
Autoexec.bat, in order to operate the CD.
Step 16: Type EDIT AUTOEXEC.BAT and press enter.
Step 17: Ensure the MSCDEX.EXE line is loaded before the line that reads,
C:\PCMPLUS3\PREINS.BAT This is the command line that begins recovering the unit.
Step 18: Remove the floppy drive and insert the PCMCIA CD-ROM drive.
Step 19: Insert the Recovery CD into the drive, and reboot the machine.
