- Procedure to Correct Notebook Computer Software Problem
For customers with Toshiba-factory installed Windows® 3.11 or Windows® for Workgroups, the following procedure removes the AntiEXE virus that may have affected some Toshiba notebook computers manufactured between August 7 and August 23, 1997.
For Windows 3.11 or Windows for Workgroups:
1. Using Windows 3.11 or Windows for Workgroups, allow the setup process to complete.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Upon restarting, the system will include a reference to a possible virus.
4. Press [ENTER].
5. System displays Windows 3.11 or Windows for Workgroups. Exit Windows 3.11 or Windows for Workgroups.
6. At the DOS prompt, C:> or C:\WINDOWS>, type:
FDISK/MBR
or
C:\>DOS\FDISK/MBR
7. Press [ENTER].
8. Power down the system by turning the system off and then back on.
9. AntiEXE is removed and operation proceeds normally.
10. If you are uncomfortable with DOS commands, Toshiba has provided a program to perform this task for you in a foolproof manner. Please download: MBR.EXE from Toshiba's Service and Support Website at
http://pcsupport.toshiba.com/sectorfix.
