WARNING: The procedure you are about to follow to fix your stated problem involves editing the system Registry files. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems which may cause the loss of data, and may require you to reinstall Windows 95. Neither Toshiba nor Microsoft will guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the Changing Keys And Values online Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe). Note that you should make a backup copy of the registry files before you edit the registry.

To create an icon on your desktop that will restore the registry to the most recently saved version, do the following:

1. Go to the Start Menu / Run command
2. Type "regedit /e restore.reg" (where restore can be any filename)

Double-clicking on the desktop icon will restore the registry.

1. Click on start, go to programs, and click on MS-Dos prompt. At the c:\windows prompt type in cd\ and press enter. Type in rename config.sys config.123 to move config.sys or Edit config.sys and remark the emm386 line and any device
That refers to Cardworks type exit to return to Windows.

2. Double click on "My Computer" with the primary mouse Click on view, click on options, click on view, click on show all Files, click ok
and close My Computer.

3. Click on start, click on find, click on files or folders, in the Name box type S*.inf, click on find now, locate the file that Represents
the modem that you are configuring, Example (if modem is Megahertz locate the file Smeg0405.inf if modem is Action Tech locate
file sact.inf,) the letters Of the modem will begin after the letter S. Once the file you are searching is found delete the file. Search for *.bin, delete Drvdata.bin and drvidx.bin. Close find box.

4. Click on start, click on run, on the run line type in Regedit, Press enter, in the Registry Editor click on edit, click on find in the find
box type in portsearchorder, press enter, once Search is found portsearchorder will be highlighted. Press enter Remove com2 from
the value data line, press enter. Press the Down arrow 1 time to highlight searchorder, press enter. Remove serial from searchorder, press enter, Exit Registry.

5. Click on start, click on settings, click on control panel. In Control panel double click on system icon, click on device mgr. In Device Manager, double click on modem, single click on the Manufactures modem to highlight, click on remove, click ok to remove modem from Device Manager.

6. In Device Manager, double click on ports(COM and LPT), if there Is a red X next to Generic IR serial port then leave disabled, if
no red X verify that the generic IR serial port is set to COM3.

7. If generic IR serial port is set to COM2, double click on Generic IR serial port, single click on resources folder, Remove the check for automatic settings, click on basic config 0001 and change to basic config 0002, click ok, click on yes for message about creating
force configuration, verify that generic IR serial port is now set to COM3.

8. In Device Manager double click on PCMCIA socket, double Click on PCIC or compatible PCMCIA controller, if Windows 95 is
OSR1 then remove the check under device usage for the current configuration (docked if in docking station or undock if not in desk station). If Windows 95 is OSR2, insert a check in disable from this hardware configuration, click ok Windows 95 will ask to reboot,
click ok.

9. Once Windows 95 reboots open up control panel, double click on icon for PC card, this will start the Windows 95 wizard, On the welcome screen for PC card wizard, make sure no is Highlighted, click next, on 2nd screen verify no is highlighted Click on next.
Click on finish to enable 32bit support. Windows 95 will ask to shut down the computer, click yes.

10. Once the computer shuts off, turn the power on to reboot the Computer back into Windows 95, during the boot process the
Modem will be reconfigured for COM2. Click on start, click on Settings, click on control panel, double click on accessibility Options, click on general tab, click on settings for serial key devices, under serial port change port to COM1, click ok 2 times to exit accessibility options.

11. Click on start, click on run, on the open line type in Sysedit Press enter, locate the file system.ini and verify that the line Comm.drv=comm.drv, if not press the down arrow 10 times Press enter 1 time, type in on the blank line
Comm.drv=comm.drv and then save system.ini with the new Changes. If modem is still not working refer to manufacturer.
