- Issue
- After installing Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 (SP4) and rebooting, a Stop Error at symc810.sys may occur. NT will be unable to boot. This only occurs if the symc810.sys driver is loaded and started.
- Procedure
- To recover from this problem, follow the steps provided below.
- Boot from a DOS/Win95 bootable floppy disk. Note: If the System Partition is a NTFS Partition, then you will need a utility to read/write to it such as NTFSDOS.EXE which can be found on the Internet (please see http://www.sysinternals.com/ntfs20.htm for information about the NTFSDOS utility.)
- Replace the Symc810.sys file located in the
WINNT\System32\Drivers directory with an older version.
An older version can be found in the following locations:
- NT v4.0 Installation CD - Symc810.sys in the i386 directory
- Symbios Installation Disks (Can be created from the Server Setup Tool CD
- Downloaded from http://www.lsilogic.com)
- The File named Symc8xx.sys must be renamed to Symc810.sys prior to rebooting the system.
- Remove the floppy disk and reboot the system. For
