Q. While my machines asleep I hear either the screen saver or the hard drive.
A. Start the machine, at PRESS F1 IF YOU WANT TO ENTER SETUP press the F1 key. Using the keyboard, arrow to Advanced, Power Management Configuration and press Enter. Enable IDE DRIVE POWERDOWN and set VESA VIDEO POWER DOWN to SLEEP and press Enter. Press F10 to save and Enter to exit.
If your Infinia is producing noises while in sleep mode, you may try the following steps to resolve the concern.
1.) Restart the machine and after the initial screen with a red Toshiba logo, the screen will black out and the first line you see will read "PRESS F1 IF YOU WANT TO ENTER SETUP". When this line is on the screen hit the F1 key atop the keyboard. After approximately ten seconds of continued booting you will arrive at a gray screen bordered with blue which reads MAIN, ADVANCED, SECURITY and EXIT at the top.
2.) Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, toggle right once to ADVANCED.
3.) Arrow down 3 times to POWER MANAGEMENT CONFIGURATION and hit enter.
4.) There are four categories on this screen, we are concerned with the top two. The first IDE DRIVE POWER DOWN is most likely already set to ENABLED. If not, hit ENTER, use the arrow keys to select ENABLED and hit ENTER again.
5.) The second category is VESA VIDEO POWER DOWN and is most likely already set to SUSPEND.
Highlight this category using your arrow keys and hit ENTER, select SLEEP and hit ENTER again.
6.) Finally, hit the F10 key followed by the enter key. The system will finish booting to Windows
If your hard drive indicator light (located on the upper left corner of the tower) is flashing continuously (one flash per 5-15 seconds is normal) a program is accessing the hard drive. Most commonly these programs are either Disk Defragmentor or Scandisk running through System Agent.
To turn off these functions, double click the System Agent icon on the lower right corner of your desktop(looks like small calendar and clock). Once open any tasks listed in this window are active and should be either scheduled to run when the machine is not in sleep mode or simply run manually from Disk Tools on the Start Menu. If you prefer to disable these, right click on the Task and left click on DISABLE
