Serial Number in DOS

- During every call you ask for a serial number. You can get the serial number through DOS. You will also be able to tell at the very beginning of the call if the hard drive has been formatted since it left the factory.
Go to Start/ Programs/ MS-DOS Prompt
Type: cd\
Press Enter.
Type:cd dos
Press Enter.
Type: type serial.num
The serial number will be displayed on the next line. If the hard drive has been formatted since it left the factory you will get the following message on the next line: File not found - serial.num.
