SYMPTOMS
========
When you use an IBM Token Ring PCMCIA network adapter in MS-DOS mode, the
adapter may not function and the computer may not be connected to the
network.
CAUSE
=====
This network adapter requires an IBM enabler to work properly in MS-DOS
mode.
RESOLUTION
==========
Load the real-mode enabler in the Config.sys file. To do so, follow these
steps:
1. Use any text editor (such as Notepad) to open the Config.sys file.
2. Add the following line to the Config.sys file
device=:\pointtr.sys
whereis the path to the Pointtr.sys file.
NOTE: This line should be the first line in the Config.sys file. Do not
load real-mode card service drivers or socket service drivers in the
Config.sys file.
3. Remove any other socket or card drivers you may have installed with
your PCMCIA cards, as these conflict with the IBM driver. If you are
unsure of which lines to remove, consult the documentation included
with your PCMCIA hardware, or contact the hardware manufacturer.
4. Save and then close the Config.sys file.
5. Restart your computer.
