Installing the Network Adapter Card and Networking Components


Write down the properties of the Network Adapter

  1. Adapter name
  2. IRQ setting
  3. Memory Base Address
  4. I/O Port Address
  5. Bus type and number
  6. IP address (only if using TCP/IP Protocol)
  7. Subnet Mask (only if using TCP/IP Protocol)

1. To uninstall a Network Card (If Netowork Card/Protocols are Present) SEE DOCUMENT ENTITLED "REMOVAL OF A
NETWORK ADAPTER AND NETWORK SERVICES"
2. Install SP3 (Service Pak 3)
3. Click Start Settings Control Pannel
4. Double click on Network
5. Dialog box pops up "Windows NT networking is not installed Do you want to install it now?"
6. Click yes
7. Network Setup Wizard screen comes up
8. Select thel option "Wired to the Network"
9. Click next
10. Network Adapter box comes up
11. If your Network Adapter card came with a Driver disk follow the steps below
  1. Click on the option "select from list"
  2. Click Have Disk
  3. Insert your driver disk
  4. Select your adapter from the list
  5. Go to step 13

12. If you don't have a floppy Click on the "Start Search" Tab
13. If NT finds the Network Adapter, Click on the next tab
14. The network Protocols Screen appears. Select the Protocols you want to use
15. Click next
16. Click next
17. Click next
18. NT will ask for the NT 4.0 CD
19. Type in the path of the NT CD (EX E:\i386)
20. Click on the continue Button
21. A dialog box will pop up asking you for the settings of your network card.
22. Enter the Setting of your adapter
23. Click continue
24. Another window will pop up (only if you selected the TCP/IP Protocol) asking you if you want to use DHCP. If you don't
know or want to us a DCHP server click no
25. NT will copy over files to the system.
26. A dialog box will come up called TCP/IP Properties. Enter your IP Address, if you don't have an IP address you can use a
default number (EX 200.200.200.20) Leave the subnet setting as the default.
27. Click Apply
28. Click ok
29. Click next
30. Click next
31. Network setup box comes up. Shows your computer name, and lets you enter weather your computer is a part of a
workgroup or domain. If you are not sure select workgroup and enter a name of your workgroup. (EX. Workgroup)
32. Click next
33. Click Finnish
34. Dialog box comes up "Do you want to Restart you Computer"
35. Click yes to reboot
36. Reinstall SP3 (Service Pak 3)
37. To Uninstall a Network adapter see document entitled "Removal of A Network Adapter and Network Services"
