Your Equium 6200M computer comes with software preinstalled on your hard drive. Follow the instructions contained in this guide if it ever becomes necessary to reconfigure your computer to its original factory setup.CAUTION: Use this guide ONLY if you have problems and must reconfigure your system. This is NOT an upgrade from your preinstalled software.
NOTE: After following the instructions in this guide, the preinstalled programs will be on your hard disk drive and ready to use. The appearance of the desktop may be different than when you turned the computer on the first time, but these differences are cosmetic and will not affect the operation of your programs.
NOTE: This CD contains drivers and applications, which included with your Toshiba Equium system. In the case where your system has become damaged in some way, this CD allows you to re-install some or all of the added components which are not included as part of Windows NT.
In the case of complete system recovery, Windows NT will need to be installed first using the CD ROM(s) provided, and then the added applications contained on this CD can be installed. If Windows NT is still working properly, individual drivers or applications can separately be installed.
How to Use This Guide
This guide contains two procedures for reinstalling the software on your Equium computer.1. You can choose Install A to reinstall all of your Equium computer's software. This procedure completely erases your hard drive (HD) and rebuilds all factory-installed software. Start at the beginning and work through the entire guide.
2. You can choose Install B to reinstall selected Toshiba backup utilities and software.
Install A: Reformatting the HD and Rebuilding Software
Before You Start;
WARNING Before you proceed any further, please backup all important data.
The Toshiba Backup CD-ROM Utilities/Software CD provides the files you need to reconfigure your system.
The instructions in this section make the following assumptions:1. You have backed up all important data
2. You understand that Install A restores only the software that was preinstalled at the factory. (This does not include shortcuts to software applications on the Windows NT desktop.)Things You'll Need
To complete the following steps, you'll need:
· The Microsoft® Windows NT CD
· The Toshiba Backup Utilities/Software CDFormat the Hard Disk Drive
1. With the power off, completely disconnect any devices that were not originally included with your system (printers, SCSI cards, network adapters, etc.).
2. If the computer is ON insert the Microsoft® Windows NT CD, then reboot the computer. If the computer is OFF turn the computer ON insert the Microsoft® Windows NT CD.
3. When the message "To enter Setup press F1" appears, press F1.
The system displays the System Setup screen.
4. Set the BIOS settings to the factory defaults by pressing F5, then pressing ENTER.
5. Save your changes and exit the System Setup screen by pressing F10, then pressing Enter.
6. Select ENTER to continue setting up Windows NT.
7. Select ENTER to continue Setup will attempt to detect mass storage devices in your computer.
8. Press ENTER to continue when setup has recognized the following mass storage devices in your computer:
IDE CD-ROM (ATAPI 1.2)/PCI IDE Controller
9. Windows NT Licensing Agreement page down to the end of the agreement. Select F8
to agree to the license agreement.10. Press 'N' for New Version and cancels upgrade and install a fresh copy of Microsoft® Windows NT.
11. Setup has determined that your computer contains the following hardware
and software components.Computer : Standard PC
Display : Auto Detect
Key Board : XT, AT or Enhanced keyboard (83-104 Keys)
Key Board Layout : US
Pointing Device : Logitech Mouse Port Mouse
No Changes : The above list matches My Computer (highlighted)
Press ENTER.
12. Deleting -> Creating -> Formatting HDD is as follows:
- a. Highlight the partition to be deleted, then press 'D' to delete.
- b. A confirmation screen appears, press ENTER.
- c. Press 'L' to remove the partition you have selected.
- d. Select the other partition and press 'D' to delete.
- e. Press 'L' to remove the partition you have selected.
- f. Press 'C' to create a New partition.
- g. Use backspace to remove the current number and then enter 2047 for a partition size for the C: Drive.
- h. Use backspace to remove the current number and then enter 965 for a partition size for the D: Drive. This will leave 8 MB of unpartitioned space.
- i. With the C: Drive highlighted press ENTER to install.
- j. You may format the HDD by using FAT or NTFS. Choose one or the other, then press ENTER.
Please wait while setup formats the partition.(NOTE: After Windows NT has fully installed need to format the other driver(s).
13. Setup will install Windows NT on Partition
C: FAT 2047MB (2047MB FREE)
With the following highlighted:
" Leave the current file system intact (No Change) "
Press ENTER.
14. Setup installs Windows NT files onto your hard disk. Choose the location where you want these files to be installed: \WINNT Press ENTER to continue.
15. Setup will examine your hard disk for corruption. To allow setup to perform an exhaustive secondary examination of your hard disk, press ENTER to perform the examination.
Please wait while setup copies files to your hard disk.16. Remove Diskette and CD-ROM from system and restart system.
17. Please insert Windows NT CD if prompted Click OK.
18. Press NEXT to "Gather Information about your computer".
19. Typical should be selected, Press NEXT.
20. Enter Name and Organization, NEXT.
21. Enter 20 Digit "Product ID", NEXT.
22. Enter Computer Name, NEXT.
23. Enter and Confirm Password, NEXT.
24. Select " No, do not create an Emergency Repair disk ", NEXT.
25. Select " Install the most common components (recommended).
26. Click on NEXT to install Windows NT NETWORKING.
27. If it is not on a NETWORK select " Do not connect this computer on a
NETWORK"
or
Select "This computer will partition on a NETWORK".
28. Click on FINISH.29. Set Date, Time and Time Zone, CLOSE.
30. Detected Display Error, Click OK, OK again.
31. Remove disk and CD's to RESTART computer, click RESTART COMPUTER.
Formatting Drive D:
1. Double click My Computer.
2. Right click in the D: drive.
3. Select format.
4. Choose between FAT or NTFS file system.
5. Click start to do a full format.
Install B: Software Drivers and Other Programs
ATI 3D XPRESSION Video Driver
NOTE: You may receive this error message during boot:
"Your display adapter is not configured properly. To correct the problem, click OK to start the Hardware Installation Wizard."
Select Cancel, then proceed with the following instructions.
1. Right mouse click on the desktop and select Properties from the menu
presented.
2. Select the Settings tab.
3. Click on the Display Type button.
4. Click on the Change button to change the adapter type.
5. In the Change Display dialog box, click on Have Disk.
6. In the Install From Disk dialog box, change the path to E:\ATI, or use the Browse button to find this directory on the backup CD.
7. Click OK in the "Install From Disk" dialog box.
8. Select the "ATI Technologies Inc. 3D XPRESSION+" item.
9. Click OK.
10. If the system displays the Third-party Drivers dialog box (warning you are about to install a third party driver), click YES.
11. The drivers have been successfully installed. You must exit from the Display
Properties Windows and reboot in order for the change to take effect. Click
OK.
12. "Invalid Display" Message. A new graphics drivers has been installed, click
OK.
13. To change Color Palette or Diskette Area. To make the changes you desire, then click test. Testing Mode message appears, click OK, the screen may go black, a test pattern appears. A message will appear asking if you seen the Test Bitmap properly, answer YES if so or NO and readjust your Color Palette and Diskette Area. Click apply, then click OK.
CRYSTAL SOUND DRIVER INSTALLATION
1. Select My Computer, then Control Panel, then MultiMedia.
2. Select the Devices tab in the MultiMedia.
3. Click on the Add button.
4. Select "Unlisted or Updated driver".
5. In the Install Driver dialog box, click on "Browse".
6. In the Browse dialog box, select the F: drive, then go to the Crystal directory
on the backup CD. Click OK.
7. In the Install Driver dialog box, click OK.
8. The Add Unlisted or Updated Driver dialog box should now show the
"CrystalWare Audio Driver". Click OK.
9. If the system asks if it should replace any files on the system (such as
"midmap.cfg"), click on NEW.
10. When the Business Audio Setup dialog box appears, click on OK to accept
all defaults.
11. Close all dialog boxes, and DON'T restart the computer when
prompted. (RESTART COMPUTER after all software or drives has been
installed.)
Intel PRO 100B LAN ADAPTER
This procedure describes how to install the LAN Adapter driver separately from
installation of networking protocols and other networking options. After
installing the LAN Adapter driver, it may be necessary to install any protocols
and clients for the system's desired configuration.
Note that if Networking has never been installed on the system, the procedure
may result in error message(s) indicating that conversion of the Winsock files
has failed.
This will occur when the Networking dialog box is closed. This is normal and
can be ignored (the Winsock files will be installed properly when
networking is installed).
1. Select My Computer, then Control Panel, and then Network.
2. If the dialog box asking "Windows NT networking is not installed. Install it
now?" comes up, select NO.
3. Select the Adapters tab on the Network dialog box.
4. Click the Add button.
5. Select Network Adapter dialog box is displayed; click on the Have Disk
button.
6. In the Insert Disk dialog box, change the path to F:\ethernet.
7. The Select OEM Option dialog box appears; select the option "Intel 82557-
based 10/100 Ethernet PCI Adapter". Click OK.
8. After installation of the driver files, the Intel Proset dialog box will appear.
Click on OK to select the default configuration.
9. Click on the Close button to close the Network dialog box.
10. Close all dialog boxes, and DON'T restart the computer when
prompted. (RESTART COMPUTER after all software or drives has been
installed.)
LANDesk Client Manager
1. Use My Computer or the Windows NT Explorer to go to the LANDesk directory on the backup CD.
2. Double click on the Setup program.
3. Procede through the Setup program, accepting defaults. When presented with the choice of configurations, select the Equium 6200M.
4. Close all dialog boxes, and DON'T restart the computer when
prompted. (RESTART COMPUTER after all software or drives has been
installed.)
Toshiba Advanced Power Management
1. Use My Computer or the Windows NT Explorer to go to the TAPM directory
on the backup CD.
2. Right click on the file "Install".
3. Select the Install option on the menu.
4. Close all dialog boxes, and DON'T restart the computer when
prompted. (RESTART COMPUTER after all software or drives has been
installed.)
Online User's Guide
1. Use My Computer or the Windows NT Explorer to go to the Hypertxt directory
on the backup CD.
2. Double click on the Setup program.
3. The Welcome dialog box will be displayed. Click on the OK button.
4. The Online User's Guide will appear in the Toshiba Utilities folder in the
Programs group.
FAT2NTFS utility
1. Use My Computer or the Windows NT Explorer to go to the FAT2NTFS
directory on the backup CD.
2. Double click on the Setup program.
3. Select defaults on all setup options.
4. The Double Click Me First icon will appear on the desktop.
