Installing Windows 95 Over an Existing Operating System
Your Equium 5160D, 5200D and 5230D computer comes with software preinstalled on your hard drive. Follow the instructions contained in this guide if it ever becomes necessary to reinstall Windows 95 on your system.CAUTION: Use this guide ONLY if you have problems and must reinstall Windows 95 on your system. This is NOT an upgrade from your preinstalled software. All peripherals added by end user, such as printers, scanners, zip/jazz/tape drives or modems, must be removed/detached from the system prior to initiating this procedure.
NOTE: After following the instructions in this guide, the preinstalled programs and any applications installed by end user will still be on your hard disk drive and ready to use. The appearance of the desktop may be different than when you started this procedure, but these differences are cosmetic only and will not adversely affect the operation of your system.
How to Use This Guide
This guide contains two procedures for reinstalling the software on your Equium computer.
- You can choose Install A to reinstall Windows 95 over an existing version.
- You can choose Install B to reinstall selected Toshiba backup utilities and software.
Install A: Installing Windows 95 Over an Existing Operating System
Before You Start
The instructions in this section make the following assumptions:
You have backed up all-important data to floppy disk(s), just as a precaution.
- You understand that Install A restores only the Windows 95 software that was preinstalled at the factory. (This does not include shortcuts to software applications on the Windows 95 desktop that may have been created by the end user.)
- If you have to reinstall software you have purchased yourself, wait until you've finished reinstalling Windows 95, and then use the original program diskettes that came with each software package
Things You'll Need
To complete the following steps, you'll need:
- The Microsoft® Windows 95 diskettes (29 diskettes) made from Create System Disks (CSD).
- Microsoft Windows 95 Setup Boot Diskette
- The Toshiba Backup Utilities/Software CD
NOTE: If you receive any error messages while installing Windows 95, write down all the information displayed (including the information under "Details," of any "Illegal Operation" messages you might get, if available) and contact Toshiba Technical Support at 888-834-8247.

Always select "NO". Do NOT keep the existing version, always replace the file with the "older" version. The file on your system may be corrupted or damaged. Replacing this file with the one from the backup disks will replace the file with a fresh un-corrupted version of the file.

If you do not wish to enter a password, enter your name and do not put a password in. For more information see your Windows 95 guide Page 2, "Logging onto Windows". Windows will continue to load and will start loading in the windows drivers. Insert the appropriate disk into your A: drive, as prompted by the system. Windows is extracting the appropriate drivers from the appropriate disks.
21. You will then get the "Enter Network Password" window. Click "OK" you will get a message that "you must enter a domain name." 22. You will get the Date/Time Properties window. Set the date and time based on your time zone and click CLOSE.
