Information

DirectX 3A Acceleration Issue.

When installing some DirectX Supported applications you may receive fatal exception errors prior to the loading of the application.

This is due partially ( in some cases) because most of the Windows 95 OS system laptops do not support DirectX graphics acceleration. Most systems with OSR2 can support some DirectX applications but are not guaranteed to run them all. Or the graphics acceleration is too high.

The first thing that you will need to perform is an upgrade of the current Chips & Technologies display driver. CT65550 or higher should be sufficient.
This will aid in the direct draw function of DirectX.

Next adjust the color palette to either 256K or 16 (bit high color). These settings are pretty standard for direct draw.

If you have the Infinia Desktop systems the existing, S3 Virge PCI display driver will handle DirectX acceleration without alterations to the system for most versions of DirectX.
If you still receive errors in reference to the registry entries for DirectX, Then quite possibly the application is sending the pictures too fast for the system to process correctly. Remember DirectX performs graphic acceleration on it's own so it really doesn't need help from Windows 95

1. Access the System properties by entering control panel or right clicking the "My Computer" Icon located on the desktop and select properties.

2. Access the 'Performance' Tab of system properties.

3. Click on the Graphics selection of the performance tab.

4. Adjust the Graphics acceleration of Windows 95 to "NONE".

The system will reboot after you select OK and close system properties. Once the system has fully rebooted, open the application once again. At this point the application should perform properly.

If there is still a problem accessing the application you will need to contact the programs manufacturer for proper assistance and possibly an upgrade of the display driver is required.

Problems may occur with other applications due to this procedure if so then reset the Windows 95 graphics acceleration to full.

WindowsNT up to 4.0 does not support DirectX
