Information
WARNING:
The procedure you are about to follow to fix your stated problem involves editing the system registry files using Registry Editor. Using the editor incorrectly can cause serious problems, which may cause the loss of data, and may require you to reinstall Windows NT 4.0. Neither Toshiba nor Microsoft will guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the Changing Keys and Values on-line Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe). Note that you should make a backup copy of the registry files before you edit the registry.

To create an icon on your desktop that will restore the registry to the most recently saved version, do the following:

1. Go to the Start Menu / Run command
2. Type "regedit /e restore.reg" (where restore can be any filename)

Double - clicking on the desktop icon will restore the registry.

Windows NT restart during Power down Issue

It has been reported by some end-users using the Windows NT operating system that during a shut down process the system sporadically reboots.

The reason, in accordance to Microsoft, is that some systems do not have proper hardware interface support for APM (Automatic Power Management) usage in the Windows NT environment.

See Microsoft's web site (http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver.)

The resolution for this issue is to locate the, Power Down After Shutdown, entry within the registry and change this entry to - 0.
The path is as follows:
  1. Hkey_Local_Machine\software\microsoft\windowsNT\currentversion\winlogon\PowerDownAfterShutDown
  2. Edit the entry by double clicking on; value, from 1 to 0.
  3. Close the registry then reboot the system.

This should resolve the issue on most systems. This operation was originally written for Compaq PC's but has been found to work with the Toshiba laptops as well.
