Information
Connecting Two Computers for Data Transfer Via Parallel Cable Devices:
USING A PARALLEL CABLE

To connect two computers for data transfer or synchronization with IntelliSync 97, you can use any LapLink ® -compatible parallel cable with male DB-25 connectors at each end.

Note: If you need to create your own parallel cable, refer to the parallel cable pinout information in the IntelliSync 97 readme file. See "Technical Support" on page 20.

TO CONNECT A PARALLEL CABLE:

1. Find an unused LPT port (parallel or printer port) on the back of each computer.

2. Attach the parallel cable to a LPT port on each computer.

The parallel cable should not be longer than 20 feet.

3. Start the Connection Setup Manager. Make sure the Local Devices tab is active.

4. Click the + next to Parallel Cable to expand the list. Double-click an unused LPT port to open the Properties dialog.

Click the Enable Connection checkbox.

Turbo mode is selected by default. Turbo Mode increases the speed of file transfers. When Turbo Mode is selected, your mouse pointer may move more slowly and your computer's system clock may slow down while files are being transferred.

To change the LPT port's I/O address or IRQ setting, click Change system settings to open the Windows 95 Device Manager.

Click OK to continue.

5. An icon indicates that the connection is enabled. See "Checking the Connection Status" on page 15. Only one parallel port can be enabled at a time.

6. Click OK to accept the Connection Setup Manager settings.

7. Repeat steps 3 through 6 on the other computer.

Use the Connection Setup Manager again if your hardware configuration changes.
