Issue
How to Set Up Fast Infrared on the Tecra 500. Please see Special Notes below for other information.
Procedure
  1. Click Start/Settings/Control Panel/System
  2. Click the Device Manager tab
  3. Make sure the Infrared Port is enabled in Device Manager (A red X indicated disabled items)
  4. If the IrDA port is disabled (red X is displayed in Device Manager):
  5. Go to Control Panel
  6. Double Click "System" Icon.
  7. Go to Device Manager TAB.
  8. If red X exists (Default Factory Preinstall).
  9. Double Click Generic IrDA Serial Port (COM3)
  10. On General Tab "Device Usage" place a check mark on docked or undocked.
  11. Run Tranxit Software, (preinstalled on Tecra 500.)
  12. Go to "Setup" Menu.
  13. In "Setup" menu select "Connection"
  14. Highlight "Infrared, Toshiba Notebook PC" in "Configured Connections" and click "Setup Connection" button.
  15. Verify that "Port" is set (highlighted) to COM3.
  16. Verify that the "Base I/O" matches the settings in "Device Manager"
  17. Verify that the "IRQ" matches the settings in "Device Manager"
  18. Verify that the "Model" is "Toshiba Notebook PC".
  19. The "Mode" setting by default is set to "FIXED". Click the down arrow and change the setting to "HIGH Speed".
  20. The "Baud Rate" settings will now change.

 

Special Notes

  • The Tecra 500 has two different IrDA ports, a front port and a back port. These ports can not be used simultaneously.

 

  • Toggling the active IrDA port (front or back)
    1. Click Start/Settings/Control Panel
    2. Double click icon labeled "Toshiba infrared".
    3. In this windows the choice can be made between front or back.
  • The Tecra 500 when docked to the DSV+ can only access the Front IrDA port. The back IrDA port blocked by the DSV+.
