- SUBJECT: Configuring an IDE/EIDE device in DeskStation V+'s 5.25" drive bay
Problem:
When installing an IDE/EIDE drive (CD-ROM, Hard drive or Tape Backup) in the DS V+'s 5.25" drive bay, system does not recognize the that device
Solution:
To install an IDE Harddrive, please make sure of the following:
1. No hard drive or CD-ROM is installed in DS V+ 's SelectBay
2. Internal CD-ROM is installed only in computer's SelectBay
3. Hard drive jumper is set as Master/single drive.
4. Power up the system and go into TSETUP
5. In screen #1, HARDDISK section should read:
Internal Hard drive Mode = Enhanced IDE (normal)
DS 5+ drivebay Mode = Enhanced IDE (normal)
In screen #2, DRIVES I/O section should read:
Internal HDD = Primary IDE (1F8h/IRQ14)
Internal SelectBay = Secondary IDE (178h/IRQ15)
DS 5+ drivebay = others (190h/IRQ10)
6. Boot into DOS prompt and use FDISK to partition/format.
** This was tested with a Maxtor 72025AP 2GB IDE drive
To install an IDE CD-ROM, please make sure of the following:
1. No hard drive or CD-ROM is installed in DS V+ 's SelectBay
2. No internal CD-ROM is installed in computer's SelectBay
3. CD-ROM drive jumper is set as Master/single drive.
4. Power up the system and go into TSETUP
5. In screen #1, HARDDISK section should read:
Internal Hard drive Mode = Enhanced IDE (normal) (empty)
In screen #2, DRIVES I/O section should read:
Internal HDD = Primary IDE (1F8h/IRQ14) (empty)
DS 5+ drivebay = Secondary IDE (178h/IRQ15)
6. Boot into DOS prompt and load appropriate CD-ROM driver
** This was tested with a Toshiba XM5602B 8x EIDE CD-ROM
To install an IDE tapebackup,please make sure of the following:
1. No hard drive or CD-ROM is installed in DS V+'s SelectBay
2. CD-ROM is installed ONLY in computer's SelectBay
3. Tape Backup jumper is set as Master/single drive.
4. Power up the system and go into TSETUP
5. In screen #1, HARDDISK section should read:
Internal Hard drive Mode = Enhanced IDE (normal) (empty)
In screen #2, DRIVES I/O section should read:
Internal HDD = Primary IDE (1F8h/IRQ14)
Internal SelectBay = Secondary IDE (178h/IRQ15)
DS 5+ drivebay = others (190h/IRQ10)
6. Boot into DOS prompt and load appropriate Tape drive driver
** Some tape backup units will not work on the second IDE channel unless the First IDE
channel is filled ( this is NOT the case with the Tecra and DS V+ ). In this scenario, the tape
backup unit is not compatible with our unit. Syquest drive model 3270 will not work because
of this limitation.
Cause:
DS V+ EIDE support has the following limitations:
1. It will only support up to 3 IDE devices total (HDD, CD
or Tape drive )
2. It will support ONLY 1 EIDE CD-ROM (in computer or DS V+)
3. It will support ONLY 1 EIDE device in DS V+ (in SelectBay
or 5.25" slot, FDD is NOT considered an IDE device)
