- Unit Standby or Hibernation is not functioning properly or shuts the unit down when attempting to put in standby or hibernation
This Information applies to the 4005 and the 7010 with Windows 98
Summary: When closing the laptop lid or using the power button to put the unit in standby the unit shuts down or is not functioning properly.
I. Hibernation- Saves current information to the disk drive so that when the unit is brought out of hibernation the unit returns to its previous state without re-booting.
A.) When using hibernation the unit should shutdown when that option is selected by either closing the lid or the power button depending on how the unit is configured in the advanced tab of the power management in the control panel.
B.) Settings:
· Bios power up mode =Boot
· Control Panel Power Management Power Schemes =Portable Laptop
· All other categories on the Power Schemes Tab can be set =Never
· Advanced Tab Options =Nothing Checked
· Advanced Tab Power Buttons set to When I close the lid of my computer = Hibernate
· When I press the power button on my computer =Shutdown
· Hibernate Tab =Enabled
C.) With the above settings when the lid of the unit is closed the unit should display approximately 30 seconds of activity on the HDD LED then the Power LED should go off. The unit is now in hibernation.
· Note: You can not bring the unit out of hibernation using the lid. You must press the power button to bring the unit out of hibernation. When loading the stored information you will see the computer animation before the desktop.
II. Standby-Saves current information in memory so that when the unit is brought out of standby the unit returns to its previous state without re-booting.
A.) When using standby the unit should appear to be off when standby is selected by either closing the lid or pressing the power button depending on how the unit is configured in the advanced tab of the power management in the control panel.
B.) Settings:
· Bios power up mode =Boot
· Control Panel Power Management Power Schemes =Portable Laptop
· All other categories on the schemes tab can be set =Never
· Advanced Tab Options =Nothing Checked
· Advanced Tab Power Buttons set to When I close the lid of my portable computer =Standby
· When I press the power button on my computer =Shutdown
· Hibernate Tab =Not Checked.
C.) With the above settings when the lid of the unit is closed the unit should display approximately 30 seconds of activity on the HDD LED then the Power LED should turn from green to pulsing amber.
· Note: In the standby mode the unit should return to its original state by opening the lid of the unit.
