Issue
Difficulty with PS/2 Mouse detection on a Toshiba Portable Computer under the Windows 95 operating system.
Procedure
  1. Click Start/Shutdown/Shut down the computer
  2. Physically disconnect the PS/2 mouse from the computer's PS/2 port
(Note: electrical damage may result from changing connections to a PS/2 port while the computer power is on. Step 1 turns off power so that this does not occur.)
  3. Rename AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS to something else, such as AUTOEXEC.Z and CONFIG.Z, then re-start Windows 95
  4. Use Start/Settings/Control Panel/System/Device Manager
  5. Double click Mouse
  6. Click the "Toshiba Acupoint" entry, then click Remove
  7. Click any other mouse entries and click Remove
  8. Click Remove from specific configuration
  9. Click Close
  10. Click Start/Shutdown/Restart the computer
  11. When the system reboots Windows 95 should detect the AccuPoint
  12. Click Start/Shutdown/Shut down the computer
  13. When the power is off, plug in the PS/2 mouse
  14. Turn the computer back ON
  15. When the system reboots it should detect the PS/2 Mouse

If the PS/2 mouse is still not detected, perform the following:

  1. Click Start/Settings/Control Panel/Mouse
  2. Click General
  3. Click Change
  4. Click Show all devices
  5. Choose Manufacturers/(Standard mouse types)
  6. Choose Models/Standard PS/2 Port Mouse
  7. Click Next
  8. Finish up the installation, answer Yes if it asks if you want to re-start the computer
