Issue
Toshiba notebook users with greater than 528 million byte (504MB) HDD who wish to have 32 bit disk access for Windows 3.11 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11, will need an updated driver. Then download EIDE32.EXE from the Toshiba File Libraries.

This has been tested successfully on a T4900CT with an 810 MB HDD, and should also work fine with other models that have had the HDD upgraded to over 528 million bytes (504MB)

Procedure
To install the driver please follow these instructions:
  1. Download EIDE32.EXE from the Toshiba Web Site
  2. Type EIDE32 to unarchive (to a diskette or temporary subdirectory)
  3. Type SETUP (from the diskette or directory in step #2)
  4. Type C to continue
  5. Run Windows
  6. Click on Main, Control Panel, 386 Enhanced icon, Virtual Memory, and Change.
  7. One can now select "Use 32 bit disk access", "Use 32 bit file access".
  8. Cache size is "2048 KB".
  9. Select OK to all prompts.
  10. Restart Windows.

This installation copies "TOSHCTRL.386" to the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. The SYSTEM.INI file is modified in the [386Enh] section to read:

32bitDiskAccess=OFF

device=*int13

device=toshctrl.386

NOTE: If installing the driver manually, be sure to place a ';' (semi-colon) in front of the DEVICE=*WDCTRL.386 line in the [386Enh] section of the SYSTEM.INI file.
