Information
Sound Recorder's default input device is the Microphone. This procedure will
demonstrate how to select other input devices: Line-in, CD Audio, Synthesizer, etc.

Note: The Sound Recorder by default has a 60 second limit, to extend this limit refer
to document: Sound Recorder, extending recording length.

Input Setup:

1. Bring up the Volume Control:
Start \ Programs \ Accessories \ Multimedia \ Volume Control

2. In Volume Control, click Options \ Properties

3. In Properties, click the radio button labeled "Recording". Under "Show the following
volume controls:" there will be a list of input devices (will vary per machine) like
Volume Control, Recording Control, Line-in, Mic, Synth, CD Audio, MixOut, etc.

4. Check them all - later the user can un-check the devices not needed - and click OK.
This will bring up a Recording Control box.

5. Move all Volume slide bars to the mid point and un-check all Select boxes.

6. Now, re-check the desired input device's Select box. Mic / Microphone, Line-in,
CD-Audio for the CD player (Note: on some systems to record from the internal CD
player select "MixOut"), etc.

7. If the "Recording" Volume Control has a Advanced button click it. If not, click
Options \ Advanced Controls and then click the Advanced button.

This will bring up the "Advanced Controls for Recording Control". Note: The Tone
Controls (Bass / Treble) are non-functional and not a feature of a Toshiba computer.

8. If the user wishes to hear the sound that he is recording, place a check in
"1 Recording Input Monitor" box. Close to exit.

Recording:

1. Start the Sound Recorder:
Start \ Programs \ Accessories \ Multimedia \ Sound Recorder

2. With the input device playing (like the CD player), click the Record button (red dot)
on the Sound Recorder. Look at Visual Wave Display (the black box with the green
line) if its pulsing then the unit is recording from the input source. If the line is flat,
check the input source and the input source selection (Setup steps 1 through 6).

Note: if at once when the Record button is click the sound from the machine stops,
but the Visual Wave Display shows pulsing - recheck Setup steps 7 and 8.

3. When the desired passage has been recorded press the Stop button (black
rectangle) on the Sound Recorder.
