- Information
- During the process of the adding or removing a Windows 95 component - like Microsoft
Fax, HyperTermial, Phone Dialer, etc. - from Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs,
Windows Setup - the system halts with the error message:
Insert Disk (Red X) - Please insert the disk labeled 'Windows 95 CD-ROM' ...
Then it attempts to copy files from: C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS.
Resolution
During the process of making the Windows 95 System Disks from Create System Disks
a few CAB files are removed from C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS. Some of these CABS have the needed files for adding certain Windows 95 components.
To correct this issue reload C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS with the missing CAB files. Go the CABS directory and see which CAB files are missing; most cases it will be:
WINDOWS 95_03.CAB, WINDOWS 95_04.CAB, WINDOWS 95_05.CAB, WINDOWS 95_06.CAB
The missing CAB files will be found on the corresponding Windows 95 System floppy disk: WINDOWS 95_03.CAB on floppy disk #3, WINDOWS 95_04 on floppy disk #4, etc.
Copy the missing CAB files from its System Disk floppy back to
C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS.
Now the system should be able to add and remove Windows 95 components without
fault.
